Feeding Instructions

Recommend this can. Firstly it has excess water because its cooked in the can for extra flavor and minerals. Just mix in the juice with a fork and it makes a nice pate. This is one of the few wet foods I found that has no legumes, peas, sweet potatoes, potatoes or starch derivatives of these. Very important to avoid for our rescue senior chihuahua who has an enlarged heart, heart murmur, and pre clinical CHF. Also our dog switched over well with no stool issues.

Watery but readily digestible. Dog enjoys but does not last very long as has a lot of water over food.

Mostly water
I like First Mate, but unfortunately the turkey is just mostly water. It isn’t very filling and my dog vomited bile because he was still hungry. I wouldn’t purchase the turkey one. The salmon and chicken are fine.
Extremely watery
Too watery, my dog was drinking the food. It’s very soupy and caused a bit of diarrhea.
Upsets my dog’s sensitive stomach
We had to switch dog food because our usual brand was discontinued. This food seemed great in theory, but my poor dog has had diarrhea since switching to it. For the cost, it doesn’t seem worth it. It’s too bad because the ingredients are great.
Healthy canned food!
My aussies really like this turkey & rice formula. I add to their kibble as a topper along w a little Greek yogurt. It’s got some liquid broth and smells very fresh (unlike some other canned foods we’ve tried). I love that it’s cage free turkey and made in Canada. Highly recommend!
