I have loved my Flexi leashes in the past and found them superior to other brands so I'm surprised to find this one so troublesome. I agree with another reviewer that adding the wider end before the clip means I can't keep my dog close in, which is sometimes a problem. The string catches often and I have to tug on it to get it moving again. And the lock on the handle catches! Sometimes I have to bang it to slide it back and forth again. Overall, skip this model and go for a Flexi with the tape instead of the string.
I loved the Flexi with my mid-size dog so I choose these for my two 6lb, toy sized dogs. I'm finding them horrible to use. While the clasp and gauge size of the leash is appropriate for small dogs, the handle is the sized for a child. During every walk, at least once, when the dogs get to then end of the leash they jerk the handle out of my hand. If you're walking only 1 dog this would probably be fine but w/ two I find them more of a frustration than benefit. Also, the gauge of the cord is very thin. I've only used the leashes 3 times but I suspect the cords will break soon. Overall a poorly designed leash for a toy sized dog.
Finally after a year of leash training my cats, we were finally able to advance to a retractable leash! It went very smooth! I got the small size, 26 feet for the babies. They do great on it. It was a little rocky for the first couple days because they kept getting caught on things but I think we have a little system going. I’m able to hold both leashes in one hand (my hands aren’t very big) and easily toggle between the buttons after a little practice. We had just a non-retractable rope leash prior to this retractable one. I had previously gotten a ‘Tug’ retractable one earlier in their training but at the time they weren’t ready; comparing those two retractable leashes, my personal opinion, this FLEXI leash by far is wayyyy better. I think they’re made in Germany if I’m not mistaken! GREAT leash, definitely would recommend it. It seems sturdy for my cats, I’ll be sure to update this review with any updates!
this leash is of higher quality than other retractable ones because of the nylon cord instead of the flat type (like the beginning of the leash). other leashes i have purchased get snagged on the fauna on my walking path but this has been holding up QUITE well! the only thing that takes getting used to is the front portion of the leash because i feel it allows my dog more slack since it doesn't retract all the way in. i would buy it again though.
I've only had two Flexi's over the years of owning dogs- the only reason I bought a second one is the reduced size of my new fur baby! It never failed me no matter how hard they tug!
My dog loves this! We live in an apartment complex so he can't just run around as he pleases but this lets him get some freedom to do that safely. The string is thin but strong. No issues!
The button on the retractable leash is getting flakey after just a few weeks of use. My old lead lasted for years. I love the attachments I bought for it, but I am disappointed with the functionality (or lack of) in the locking button. This is my 4th one flexi lead, but the first one with this style button. I'll still try them again next time & hope for better luck.
1st leash of this brand lasted 20yrs, 2 dogs, and I expect the the same from this leash! Won't buy any other brand.
Seems to work nicely, very smooth. Leash is lightweight so does not weigh my little dog down.
I loved this leash when we first got it. It was great for our Aussie mix puppy. I take her to the nature trail daily for long walks and just the click of the leash gets her to come back to my side. However, we've only had this leash for a little less than 2 months and at approximately 35lbs, my puppy was able to snap the leash and injure me in the process while having a brief bout of the zoomies. This is not only very disappointing but dangerous! Luckily she didn't take off but ran back to me while I was on the ground after the head injury that was caused by this leash snapping. Very unhappy with this product.
