Frisco Collapsible Wood & Wire Cat Cage Playpen - 2 Level

I needed a cat kennel to use in training a foster cat to break a habit of spraying my curtains at night, due to prowling feral cats outside. I managed to deter the cats outside (with a motion activated sprinkler), but my foster cat (being neutered late at two years old) got comfortable with spraying and I needed to break his habit, so I decide to kennel him just while I slept at night for period of training. I've had the taller wire cat kennels on wheels with flimsy plastic shelves (which is okay for kittens or younger cats), but my 15-pound foster needed to be comfortable, and the FRISCO wood and wire kennel fit my needs purrrfectly! It's spacious for larger cats with a wide and stable shelf for lounging and sleeping, and plenty of space on the bottom for a litter pan. I placed a stainless-steel litter box (23.5" L x 15.5" W x 6" H) under the napping shelf and I managed to make it fit by removing the bottom tray which wasn’t important for me to use (I have polished concrete flooring for easy clean-up). I used heavy duty Velcro on the bottom of the plush bed to attach to the shelf so it doesn’t slip when the cat jumps. The kennel blends in well with my modern home and decor, and it is in my living room. It looks like nicer cat furniture and not just a cheap wire kennel. Before I go to bed, I offer my foster boy a treat on the shelf with the plush mat, and he happily jumps up for his treat and settles in for the night. This routine was meant to be for only a few weeks to help him forget about his nightly spraying ritual, but he never resisted or tried to get out, so I sleep better knowing he's safe and comfortable in the kennel, so we’ve continued this for the last six months (no spraying and I don't have to wash curtains in the morning). First thing in the morning I open both kennel doors and I leave the doors open all day and he sometimes naps there, as do my other cats, and they use the litter box in there. I even made him a little art gallery and attached a water bowl for him. I should note I never shut him in the kennel at any other time, only at night to sleep, and kennels should never be used as “punishment” for any animals. This kennel is best suited for one adult or two kittens. Great for fostering or to use as a recovery kennel after spay/neuter surgery or any post-surgery procedure. I am so pleased with this kennel, and would highly recommend it if you are seeking one that looks higher end, is spacious and secure, and you want one that is more permanent that you can leave set up all year round. It's worth it!
