Frisco Full Coverage Dog Life Jacket, Blue/Black, X-Small

Unfortunately this life jacket did not fit my chihuahua well. I used the size chart, and I don't think going up or down a size would make a difference. It just fits her strangely no matter how I adjust it, especially the chest piece that protrudes out and won't stay sitting flat against her. Since fit is an extremely important aspect of the effectiveness of a life jacket, we're going to need to pass on this one.  I also don't like that it's black. The color made me hesitant to buy the vest, but it was the only full coverage design I could find, which I thought would make for a more comfortable experience for lifting my chihuahua out of yhe water, avoiding painful pressure points on her body, but I should have listened to my instincts. A life vest should be brightly colored to make users more visible in the water so they can easily be found if one loses track of them, or if you're in an area with other vessels around to avoid accidents. Black also absorbs more sunlight, and if you're taking your dog out on the water in hot weather another color would be better to avoid the additional absorption of heat.  Other than that, the vest appears to be well made, thus some stars instead of zero. If the fit could be better adjusted, especially on the chest piece, it would make a big difference. And a brighter, more visible color would really knock the design out of the park.  I hope Frisco goes back to the drawing board on this one. I think a lot of people are looking for the 'full coverage' design, and if they can improve it, it will be the best K9 life vest available. In the meantime, my chihuahua will continue to use the other good quality Frisco life jacket she has that fits her better and meets her basic safety needs.

I bought this life jacket for my 100lb Bernese mountain dog who likes to float or splash, not necessarily swim haha. According to the size chart measurements he was on the far end of the XL option but when I got it, I couldn't even get it buckled. So if you are unsure, I would definitely SIZE UP!! The life jacket itself is well designed and looks to be incredibly buoyant! I tried it on my smaller Bernese even though she will not use it, just to get an idea of what the fit would be if it were to buckle. I personally do not think it is well suited for large chested dogs as it hits weird on their shoulders and inhibits movement to an extent. The floatation parts stick out on the top and there is one on the front of the chest; the design looks to be great at keeping a heavy dog above water! I started a return since the size did not work for my dog but they said that they would just refund and I could donate it! I think this life jacket would be very well-suited for dogs doing water therapy rehab so I will look to see if I can find a place that does that to donate it to!
