Grandma Lucy’s began when founders Breann & Eric Shook started their quest for safe, healthy dog treats. Their 11-year old English Cocker Spaniel, Lucy, had developed food allergies that prevented her from eating most treats, and as they learned what was in pet food, they were surprised at the inferior ingredient quality. I figured I would try this because my dogs won’t eat plain boiled rice so I thought I could grind this up in a blender and mix it with water to rehydrate so they could eat it. When I got it it looked just like minute rice. It’s expensive for what it is. There’s just a few pieces of dehydrated chicken and the rest of it is just like minute rice. I’m gonna save money and just buy a minute rice cause it’s the same thing.

This is a lot easier than going out and buying chicken or salmon and boiling it and thenmaking rice. There’s nothing added in these packs. When you need them, you’ll be glad you have a couple in the cupboard.

I have been searching for cat food that will be easy on my cat's tummy. This is the only thing I found that firms up his stools. He will only eat pate and will not eat the chunks in Grandma Lucy's but I found a way around this: I put the contents of the package in the blender and grind it to a powder. Then I mix it with water until it's a thick consistency and then mix it with a his regular pate. The only reason for not giving this 5 stars is the cost.

Good and easy

I have two senior dogs, one prone to pancreas flare ups. I bought this to have on hand if needed since dashing to the store for chicken and rice isn't always easy. And to take when I travel in case needed. The quality was very good and the rice and chicken were small bits which some dogs might really need. I tried one bag to make sure it was good. It prepares very easy. I actually just used very hot tap water and let it sit longer and that worked just as well as boiling water. The dogs quite enjoyed it. I could only give it a four star for it's quality and convenience. I couldn't rate any higher because it is VERY expensive for the amount it yields. Buying and making your own chicken and rice is MUCH, MUCH cheaper. Disproportionately so. It isn't something I could buy and use regularly. But it is very convenient to have on hand and I now pack a bag of it when I go on road trips as I could easily prepare it if my dog suddenly needed it.
