Pets with sensitive stomachs may need to transition a little more slowly to avoid any digestive upset. If you introduce the new food too quickly and your cat or dog experiences some digestive upset, just back up to the previous transition amount where your pet wasn’t having any trouble and feed that amount for a few more days before continuing with the transition. Once your pet is eating all Halo food, if you switch between Halo recipes, consider a 2- or 3-day transition to minimize stomach upset.
Is canned food bad for my pet’s teeth?
No. While many vets recommend dry food to "keep teeth clean and healthy" it is a fact that many pets do not chew their food well enough to get any abrasive cleaning action from dry food. Whether you feed dry or canned food the single most important thing for dental health is tooth brushing.
Why does Halo refer to its products as natural?
Because it is! AAFCO (Association of American Feed Control Officials) defines "natural" pet food as having ingredients from ONLY plant, animal or mined sources. These foods cannot be highly processed or contain chemically synthetic ingredients, such as artificial flavors, preservatives or colorings.
Why does Halo refer to its products as holistic?
The holistic viewpoint that Halo has stems from the belief that health is achieved by focusing on the whole body through natural living. Halo believes that the quality of ingredients a pet eats is the foundation of overall well-being but that elimination of harsh chemicals from food, treats and the environment is also critical to achieve optimal health.
Why does Halo use so much egg and peas in their formulations?
Halo uses eggs and peas as an additional source of highly digestible protein to support protein levels in all formulations. Halo does not use meat meal as a concentrated source of dried protein and uses only whole real meat ingredients. It is more difficult to achieve very high protein levels when using whole real meat instead of a meat meal. We feel the eggs and peas are healthier alternatives to meat meal.
Why does Halo avoid rice and corn in their foods?
Halo defines corn and white rice as "fillers". These are carbohydrates that may raise blood sugar levels rapidly and create hormonal signals that may have negative long term effects on metabolism and weight gain. Corn and rice based diets may also contribute to chronic symptoms of maldigestion, such as gas, bloating, and diarrhea. Halo makes healthier carbohydrate choices by using whole grains such as barley and oats and vegetables like sweet potatoes. These carbohydrates are nutrient-dense because they supply energy as well as high levels of fiber for digestive health and high levels of vitamins and minerals for overall health.

Holistic. Whole. Humane.
Halo is committed to providing no less than the best holistic recipes to satisfy your cat’s carnivorous cravings. Their wet cat food combines pure, natural ingredients like whole meat, poultry and fish plus non-GMO fruits and vegetables for delicious, more digestible meals. Following a whole meat philosophy, Halo never uses animal by-products or meat meals—just the real, whole proteins your cat needs to thrive.
Super Digestibility
Halo believes that whole meat equals a whole lot more digestibility. As obligate carnivores, cats need meat, not just parts of animals that you wouldn’t consider to be meat. When your pet gets whole proteins instead of rendered meats like chicken meal or fish meal, they’re getting optimum nutrition that’s easier for their body to digest. And that means they can get the full benefits of each nutrient-rich ingredient.
What's in Your Cat's Bowl?
With Halo, you won’t see a "meat meal" hiding anywhere in the ingredients, and there’s no corn, wheat, wheat gluten, rice or artificial colors, preservatives or flavors. Here’s what you will find:
Holistic Whole Protein: Salmon, whitefish, chicken or turkey that's slow-cooked provides a more digestible source of protein with up to 16 times less ash than rendered meat.
Non-GMO Produce: Fruits and vegetables from farms that refuse to use genetically modified seeds that rely heavily on chemical fertilizers and herbicides to produce crops.

Not quite a stew for my cats
By JasminBoss on Dec 23, 2020
This food is very similar to the pate version so I should only need to order the stew instead of the pate. The cats eat some but not all the food. I do like the fact it is juicy and moist but not enough broth for a stew. So my two other cats who tend to eat shredded salmon flavor food do not take to this cat food. The other three will lick some but half may remain on the plate. I think I better get a salmon or fishy flavor as my cat do not prefer plain chicken.

Good Food to Change It Up
By Shelly on Jan 18, 2021
Tried something different to see what happens, so we checked out “stew”. Most everything is eaten but the larger pieces of vegetables that are sometimes in the stew recipes. The moisture is a good level that even the picky eater will eat a good amount of her portion.

Good reviews, but cat hates it
By Halo on Dec 2, 2020
I ordered this because it was on super sale, seems to be good quality and had good reviews. My cat sniffed at it and then stared at me like I had insulted his family and then ran as fast as he could into the other room. An hour later, smacked me when I tried to pet him having still not forgiven me for trying to make him eat something so vile. I don't know why, but he hates the food, so I'd recommend buying a small amount to make sure your cat is a fan. I will donate it to a shelter.

Cat would not eat it
By Catlady on Nov 24, 2020
I have several kitty cats. Typically they like Halo...but something has changed. Not one of my cats would eat this. I even tried topping it with Fancy Feast Medley. They licked the Medley off...but then scratched at the Halo like it was something in the cat box. I then put it outside for the strays...who usually will eat ANYTHING. They wouldn't eat it either. Nor would the wildlife...like the Possums who come to visit at night in the woods.

My cat loved it
By Shannon on Jan 16, 2021
My cat is reasonably picky, but really likes this food! I would say it's more of a pate than stew, but there are some whole peas and recognizable green beans that she somewhat surprisingly still ate.

Popularity diminished over time
By Penny on Jan 9, 2021
The first can I popped was devoured. Slowly, their interest in it dwindled. If it’s been a while since they’ve had any gravy, they’ll go right for it, but this will not be an every day meal item for them.

My cats had eaten this can food over a year. However, recently, Halo changed their recipe and my cats refused to eat it.

They didn't like it and when ate one developed bare spots
By Marge on Jul 20, 2020
Gave this to my two cats. Didn't eat very much and put outside for outdoor cats and they also did not eat. My 2 cats ate some and 3 days later saw tuffs of fur on one Washed a little and then saw several bare spots of skin on her back right in the center and along the spine. Looked up reviews. Some liked it. There were 2 reviews saying their cat over groomed and there were bare spots on back and flank

Humanely raised proteins!
By Sarah96 on Jun 9, 2020
I choose to start buying Halo because I am a vegetarian who doesn't love feeding my cats meat but knows it's essential for their health. I did some research into ethical pet food brands and found that Halo was the most accessable brand that totes certified humanely raised proteins. They do not source proteins from factory farms so the animals are not given unnecessary antibiotics or growth hormones. It is worth the higher price tag for the ethical treatment of animals. While this food is called a stew, Halo has funky standards for the consistency of their food. This is most similar to a softer pate or a mouse. Their pate food is much firmer than most pate foods.
