How long is the power cord?

The base should be directly on a hard flat surface inside a protected area. The next step would be to place the pan, double wall fount, or plastic drinker on the surface of the heater base. This product is not intended to be used with feeders.

Best type of heater

I've used this type of chicken water heater for a number of years. They work well for galvanized waterers, though the box says it's ok for some plastic I don't plan

I've used this type of chicken water heater for a number of years. They work well for galvanized waterers, though the box says it's ok for some plastic I don't plan on testing that. I've made the error of putting thses straight on the ground (dirt). It will last much longer if it's placed on a piece of wood or concrete blocks. This one has a plastic under piece, they have been metal all the way around and they notoriously rust after a few seasons. Of all the chicken water heater types this is my favorite and will keep a 5 gallon water fount ice free. I've kept chickens for 30+- years and IMHO these work best.

Tab broke

I have had 2 of these, one was a free replacement because the tab broke off the first one. The second one I used for maybe 3 months and the tab broke off again

I have had 2 of these, one was a free replacement because the tab broke off the first one. The second one I used for maybe 3 months and the tab broke off again. Absolute garbage product. Can’t use it without the tab or the vacuum doesn’t work

Great product

So far it's been working great. I like that I can put any bowl on it unlike my old heated water bowl which was the whole bowl and I was limited to using just that

So far it's been working great. I like that I can put any bowl on it unlike my old heated water bowl which was the whole bowl and I was limited to using just that one. My geese like to throw the bowls around so I like to use a heavy one and haven't had any issues. It doesn't make the water hot by any means but it's kept it from freezing in 20F weather. I'm not sure how it'd do below that temperature. I'm a bit nervous about my electric bill but hopefully it doesn't change too much. It's worth it though to not be refilling water multiple times a day.

I got this just in time for a big freeze in the area, perfect timing! I didn't need to get up at the crack of dawn to break up icy waterers. I just wish it was a bit more waterproof, my chickens are not the cleanest of birds so I couldn't leave it out there all day for fear they'd either drip water or poo on some part of it.

This is a nice alternative for hens that prefer this over metal nipple heated waterers. I plugged it in and it works great and because I only got the heated bottom

This is a nice alternative for hens that prefer this over metal nipple heated waterers. I plugged it in and it works great and because I only got the heated bottom I need to buy the waterer to go on top and I will do so for next year because it is a little late in the season to invest but this company makes a metal or plastic water dispenser to sit on top. The heater naturally elevates it too so that will help with keeping the water cleaner. I may even put it on something else as well to be sure the unit stays dry. I imagine you could also use it for dogs and put a plastic or metal bowl on top. Cool product and good for winter.

I have no complaints! It’s a great size and can fit a large sized water container for your birds. I would just make sure the container can’t slide off or anything

I would just make sure the container can’t slide off or anything because the middle part of the base can get pretty hot and we don’t want any fried chickens! Other than that, it seems pretty sturdy so we’ll see how many winters we can get out of it.

The overall product works really well to keep water from freezing. The base does not appear waterproof which could become an issue, if exposed to the elements at all, which I try to avoid anyway. There is no way to endure a bucket will stay on the heater which could also be an issues if it were to get knocked off. Overall this product is incredibly useful to not have to worry about the water freezing every night! I do live in South Carolina so the winters are not severe but we did have over 20 days below 32 degrees this winter so far.

Good water heater. Only complaint is that you can’t use it with an extension cord, per the enclosed instructions. The cord is rather short and won’t reach the electrical outlet I intended to use. Tested the heater and it gets very warm, very quickly. Now I just need to figure out how I can best use with my coop setup.

I am using the heated base with a 2 gallon chicken waterer. This has worked great! It only runs when freezing or lower. The lowest temperature since using was 0 degrees and the water was not even iced. It states it works down to 10 degrees so I was pleasantly surprised when it was perfect at 0 degrees. This week will be even colder so excited to see how it performs. I also like that is isn’t running above freezing to help with the electric bill. I do recommend this base heater.
