FAQ

Has Health Extension been affected by any pet food recalls?

No, our formulas have never had a single recall.

What is the difference between “chicken” meal and “chicken by-product” meal?

Chicken meal is a high quality concentrated protein source that contains muscle meat. By law it may not contain heads, feet or intestines. Chicken by-product meal contains a variety of chicken “parts” including heads, feet and intestines.

Why do you use garlic in certain formulas?

We add a trace of garlic to our canned dog food to increase palatability. While it is a member of the onion family, garlic does not contain a meaningful amount of disulfide and will not cause a dog to become ill.

Where are Health Extension products sold in my area?

Our holistic pet products are now available at nearly 2000 independent retailers throughout the United States and parts of Canada! Simply use our Store Locator to find the most convenient location.

What is the percentage of meat in the Meaty Mix Chicken & Beef canned formulas?

Made exclusively with meat, each can contains more than 95% of Chicken and Beef, respectively.

Where are Health Extension foods made?

All Health Extension products are proudly made in the U.S.A.

I have been feeding Health Extension to my dog for years, but the last bag that I opened looked darker (or lighter) then before. Should I be concerned about feeding this to my dog?

Health Extension dog foods, cat foods and pet products are all-natural. Our foods have no added artificial colors or flavors. Colors and dyes are used to mask the natural colors which give a consistent color. We expect to see slight variation from batch to batch. This is simply a reflection of the natural ingredients we use and in no way affects the quality of the food.

What is the shelf life of Health Extension?

Health Extension dry foods have an expiration of 1 year from date of manufacture.

How should I transition my pet from a different brand over to Health Extension?

The following 5 day process provided by PetMD usually leads to positive results:* Day 1 - Mix 20% of Health Extension with 80% of the old.* Day 2 - Mix 40% of Health Extension with 60% of the old.* Day 3 - Mix 60% of Health Extension with 40% of the old.* Day 4 - Mix 80% of Health Extension with 20% of the old.* Day 5 - Feed 100% of Health Extension!

Does Health Extension offer free samples so that my pet can try it before I buy a larger bag?

While we do not have samples to send out from our corporate office, these can be obtained from a local retailer.

This dog food is a healthy diet. Small stools, good appetite, nice coats, that is all I can ask of a diet for my guys. I pay a bit more, but save on vet. bills.

    Dog loves this!

    By on

My dog loves this kibble and it is perfect size for Miniature Schnauzer. My dog has sensitive stomach so we gradually introduced this food over a 2 week period. He has had no digestive upsets and has had no adverse reactions.

Very early in the transfer to this food. But so far very positive. The ingredients are very good. The price is a bit dear. But then it is for my special baby.

USA N.Y. company using USA Healthy products

    By on

We have 6 small dogs all different ages and have no problem leaving this food down for them to graze. This keeps their coat shinny, they itch less and yes all poop normal. We also get the tiny bites of whitefish to give them different size and they love both. This brand is cross compatible so doesn't matter if you mix flavors. We did a lot of research to find this brand. We have happy dogs for 2 years on this brand. An it is for all life stages so with us having older senior dogs this helps keep one brand in home.

    Fine dog food

    By on

I've been on the lookout for organic or non gmo dog food for some time, determined to feed my three finicky eaters ingredients that nourish, not kill. Besides Ziwi Peak, this brand is proving to be both healthy and enjoyed. All three of my older dogs, a terrier mix, a doxie mix, and corgi mix, are all doing well, showing bright-eyed energy and good stamina. I have no complaints.

    Food is good quality but.....

    By on

My chocolate lab and 2 German shepherds will not eat this food. All 3 dogs turn their nose up at it. Back to searching for a good food. Nature’s recipe grain free salmon and sweet potato is a good food but 2 have started with some skin issues after eating it for 2 years and are avoiding this food so it’s time to change.
