Clean ingredients, but not right for our sensitive pooch
Our neighbors have two different breed dogs at different stages of life and they LOVE and highly recommended this food so count that as a 5-star review. I finally determined the cause of our Lab's diarrhea was his dry Chicken and Rice Blue Buffalo so decided to try this. I transitioned him from all rice to Health Extension VERY slowly. He did fine until between about 50-70% of the kibble, 30-50% rice when he started getting the runs by the end of the day, again. So, now I'm navigating the tricky arena of cooking my dog's food. He's been on my homemade liver, chicken, beef and white rice with our homegrown beets, carrots, ginger, and parsley for about a week and he's happy, energetic, seems satisfied, and his poops are PERFECT! So, if your dog can tolerate kibble at all I'm sure this is a good one to try, hence my 4 stars. I'm almost positive our previous Lab would have done great on it.
QUALITY FOOD
I had researched the healthiest quality food sold. Unfortunately, the "best" or "highest quality" food my money could buy, gave my dogs diarrhea and horrific gas. I had fostered a dog, that came with this food, and read the label & discussed with my vet. This Brand of food has high quality ingredients - made in the USA and local to where I live! I have been feeding this for several months now and my pack & I are very happy.
Contaminated?
Since we got out first bag till we finished it our 2 dogs had been sick with diarrhea and vomiting 5 times between them two. Because there are times they eat it OK for a week I couldn't believe it is the food that causes it. It feels like some kibbles are contaminated with bacterial infection, because when sickness starts it doesn't go away with switching to medical food prescribed when we had the very first episode. It requires antibiotic to stop. My dogs are healthy 5.5 years old dogs never had problems with their stomachs. Because of auto-fill I now I have a unopened bag I am not going to feed to them.

My dog has been on this dog food for years he absolutely loves it and agrees with him and it's so very healthy I would recommend anyone that wants to keep their dog happy and healthy to choose this dog food it's absolutely great I love it!!!
Good so far
We ran out of his old dog food while traveling, so we started him off with the new kibble with a couple of spoonfuls of pumpkin. So far, so good.

As a breeder, I am always researching and trying new foods for my dogs. Heath Extension Original is a great All Life Stages food that I can feed to growing puppies to my senior dogs. I always include Heath Extension Original in my food rotation and add joint support to my ADULT dogs dish. Please note, the online analysis is incorrect on all sites that sell this food. The original does NOT contain glucosamine/chondroitin as listed. Zoom in on the bag and you will see the bag is labeled correctly.
Love Food-dissatisfied delivery
I have purchased repeatedly by *autoship* for my dogs. They thrive on this brand & blend. Typically delivery is seamless - Idn have to lug heavy bag in&out of vehicle; it arrives on my doorstep. However, this delivery the box enclosing the bag of food *obviously heavy* was roughly handled during shipping so when i opened the box ..the food was all inside the box with seams of bag split open on one side. Suggest in future maybe box is marked somehow 'don't drop'. Clearly it's heavy but still has to be transported gingerly. Thanks Chewy!
Unknown Surprise
When I adopted a six year old tricolor Corgi from a pet rescue she came with some of the food they were feeding her. She liked the food and she was healthy with a beautiful coat so I decided to give HEALTH EXTENSION a try. I was surprised by the quality ingredients of the food; real chicken and fish, healthy grains and oils. My Tootsie loves it and I do too.
Good food, but my Senior dog does not fancy it?
I was hoping and yet confused! I feed the same brand, lil bits to my Chihuahua and my bigger dog, Simba, trys to steal his uneaten food and so I bought this for bigger dog's and he just doesn't take to it. He is 14 and only food now he eats right up us Fresh Pets, (the log form). I also want a kibble he will eat as a second meal. Been waiting to try the Royal Canin, Medium, over 10+ years and is still out of stock. Can't believe he is starting to get picky like a cat. Ugh!. I still recommend this food, but like anything, not every pet likes the same.
