Has Health Extension been affected by any pet food recalls?

No, our formulas have never had a single recall.

What is the difference between “chicken” meal and “chicken by-product” meal?

Chicken meal is a high quality concentrated protein source that contains muscle meat. By law it may not contain heads, feet or intestines. Chicken by-product meal contains a variety of chicken “parts” including heads, feet and intestines.

Why do you use garlic in certain formulas?

We add a trace of garlic to our canned dog food to increase palatability. While it is a member of the onion family, garlic does not contain a meaningful amount of disulfide and will not cause a dog to become ill.

Where are Health Extension foods made?

All Health Extension products are proudly made in the U.S.A.

What is the shelf life of Health Extension?

Health Extension dry foods have an expiration of 1 year from date of manufacture.

  • My dogs LOVE this food

    By on

I have two smaller dogs who have been on vegan/vegetarian formulas for over 6 years now. I've tried them all. Now that two of mine are older and can't have hard food, I feed them canned food. I've tried a few different vegan brands and this BY FAR is their favorite and I have also noticed a difference in energy in both of them! I was feeding natural balance veg formula before, and this is FAR superior! Give it a try! Worth it costing a bit more.

  • Wonderful Product!

    By on Top 500 Contributor

This is an excellent product and my pups go nut for it! Even my non-vegetarian pups! I have one boy with severe protein allergies and he has to eat vegetarian. This product is more expensive so I don't purchase it all the time, but it is great to have in the rotation so he can get variety in his diet. I recommend this one!

  • This is Awesome!!

    By on

This food is awesome and my dogs love it. My mom"s Cairn had itch issues and was put on a vegetable diet by the vet but would not eat the prescribed food. After trying this food mixed in with her regular food all our issues were solved. Please keep this in stock. Love it!!

  • So disappointed

    By on

Thought I had found a new vegetable alternative for my dogs based on the high recommendations they won’t touch this stuff and it’s not cheap . I wasted my money went back to nature recipe it’s less expensive and they will at least eat it. After having one Pooch suffer from pancreatitis it’s so hard to find a vegetable dog food they enjoy and that’s reasonable . We tried halo till they jumped their prices to the moon and then even that food they after a year sniff and walk away . Alas

  • Alternative to higher protein foods

    By on

I am using this to make a gravy for kibble that has plenty of protein already. My dogs love it as they are veggie lovers.

  • Great Topping!

    By on

Great topping to add to my pup's kibble. I'd never feed this on it's own since dogs still need meat and the nutrients from it. But as a "snack" or topping, or just to add some bulk or variety to her canned selection, it's great. However, I do think it makes her poops larger. Most likely because most of it passes through being just fruits and veggies. It's basically just a filler.

  • Tabs break off of the cans

    By on

Impossible to open using the pull tabs. The cans are dirty and when you try to open using the pull tab, they break off. I had to use a regular can opener and a knife to pry the lid off two different cans. Nothing special about the food that I can see. I'm disappointed.

  • Superior Ingredients

    By on

I was about to buy a vegetarian dog food from another brand but then I discovered this! The ingredients are far superior--they also use olive oil instead of inferior canola oil. My dog has a sensitive stomach so I usually feed her this brand's lamb canned food, but I wanted to rotate with a non-meat product. She seems to need fiber so I figure this will do it. I've read that an all vegetarian diet isn't good for dogs, so I will alternate this with the lamb and beef in this line and with Party Animal's lamb canned food. This company is small and they put out a quality product. Health Extention, PetGuard and Party Animal are three brands that I swear by.

  • My dog loves it

    By on

I have a 7 month old yorkie, I got him at 3 months and was told to continue feeding him the holistic health extension brand since it's what he had been eating since he was born. I bought the turkey, duck, and vegetarian cans. He didn't like the others and only ate the vegetarian one. He looooves it! I mix it with the dry little bites, and he eats it all up in 2 seconds. Thank god for this site, because I have yet to see this brand in stores!
