Has Health Extension been affected by any pet food recalls?

No, our formulas have never had a single recall.

What is the difference between “chicken” meal and “chicken by-product” meal?

Chicken meal is a high quality concentrated protein source that contains muscle meat. By law it may not contain heads, feet or intestines. Chicken by-product meal contains a variety of chicken “parts” including heads, feet and intestines.

Why do you use garlic in certain formulas?

We add a trace of garlic to our canned dog food to increase palatability. While it is a member of the onion family, garlic does not contain a meaningful amount of disulfide and will not cause a dog to become ill.

Where are Health Extension foods made?

All Health Extension products are proudly made in the U.S.A.

What is the shelf life of Health Extension?

Health Extension dry foods have an expiration of 1 year from date of manufacture.

    Best Healthy Dog Food Eva!

By JenDowNow on Nov 20, 2021

I was getting very worried about my 17 year-old doxie, as she is not supposed to have protein due to kidney disease and she would not eat the Rx foods (dry or wet). We tried several brands and even resorted to letting her eat the protein based food, just to get something in her. But, she wouldn't eat that either. She also had terrible diarrhea. She wasn't even getting out of bed in the morning to eat. Well, this food is amazing! I never saw her eat so well! She is up out of bed, eats it immediately and every drop. She has way more energy. AND her poops are solid and healthy. I am thrilled! She goes to the vet next week and I'm hoping for a great report.

    He loves it!

By doxiemom on Dec 8, 2021

I bought this for my senior dachshund who is in renal insufficiency. We were struggling to get him to eat...he hates the low fat/low protein prescription food. I bought this hoping he would eat it but thinking he wouldn't because he is so picky as wasn't feeling 100%. He absolutely LOVES it. The transformation in him is incredible..he looks forward to eating and is happy and playing again. All 5 of my dogs love it.

Great for dogs requires high fiber diet. Good bland diet alternative.

By Mary on Aug 29, 2021

I am not trying to make my dog vegetarian or anything, but he has been on Rx high-fiber diet. He lately refuse all kibbles so I was looking for alternatives. This food contains a lot of fiber, very similar % to those high-fiber kibble in dry matter calculation. I use this can to mix with some animal proteins he likes. It seems like also a good alternative to bland diet without losing key nutritions. It seems good quality and smells nice.

    Dogs weren’t crazy over this

By DiBo on Aug 14, 2021

My dogs have severe allergies to chicken so I usually order another vegetarian brand they love. That was out of stock so I figured I would try this. My dogs aren’t picky eaters and usually will eat everything and anything they come across. They actually left this on their plate. I did end up mixing it with salmon and they ate more of it when mixed. Not a bad product at all and a great price but this wasn’t my dogs favorite food at all.

    Glad for Vegetarian Options

By JSmaturedogs on Aug 1, 2021

I bought Health Extension Vegetarian Entree canned dog food as a vegetarian option to so much meat in canned foods. It's orange like carrots and doesn't smell very good to me, but the dogs seem to love it. I would like to see a higher moisture content to aid digestion. Several vets have recommended this and the other canned foods I buy have it.

    dive, dive, dive

By PINKYRAT on Aug 28, 2021

All 3 of my dogs dove for this. I have 2 Cocker Spaniels and one Boston Terrier. I've never seen them eat anything so fast except for the USA pig ears. They are very happy!
