If I’m having my dog try a different flavor of dog food (not chicken) to see if it’s an allergy issue he has, would this be okay? It does say there’s chicken fat in the ingredients.
Answer by • Sep 19, 2019
This recipe does contain chicken fat. Chicken fat doesn't contain the same protein in chicken meat that triggers allergies in dogs who are allergic to chicken, so it would still be safe to feed a dog with chicken allergies. When changing diets, it's important to do a gradual transition to avoid digestive upset. To transition, mix your pet’s current food with the new food. Over 7 days, gradually decrease the amount of the current pet food while increasing the amount of new pet food.

The kibbles are approximately the size of a chickpea.
Why doesn’t Science diet list Calcium and Phosphorus on their packaging?
Answer by • Mar 19, 2020
This variety contains approximately 0.98% Calcium content on an as fed basis (1.09% on a dry matter basis) and 0.72% Phosphorus content on an as fed basis (0.80% on a dry matter basis). At this time, only protein, fat, fiber and moisture content are required to be on pet food labels.

After supporting SD for 10 years they have decided to raise prices and began serving poor quality food. When I opened this bag the pieces appeared very dry and much darker than usual. Thinking it's just me I gave it to my dog. For 3 days my dog refused to eat. No matter what I put in the bowl with the dry food (chicken, PB) my dog still wouldn't touch it. I then offered this food to my other dog and she refused it too. I went to a local pet store and purchased a bag of NutriSource and my dog scarfed it down as she was starving after not eating for 3 days (she was not sick as I thought this was the issue). She was not eating it because it was not safe. Please stay clear of this company and keep your pets safe. I look forward to seeing SD go out of business soon and I hope no one else's dog is harmed or killed during the process.

They love it
Teddy & Tucker recently switched from HSD Chicken and barley to the lamb formula to reduce chicken in their diet due to suspected allergy and they are eating with renewed interest!

Good quality
All of our dogs have reacted rather well to this food. I would give it 5 stars if it wasnt' for the fact that it is way pricier than other foods we've tried.

Allergy symptoms
Unfortunately my dog who is sensitive to chicken starting itching like crazy after a few days of being introduced to this food. She loved the taste. Wish you could buy smaller bags for this reason.

Science Diet
First time we ordered from Chewy as we had a coupon and our grand dog will be visiting with us over Christmas. This is the food she eats and with the $20 off it was the best deal we could find. Can't believe how much this food has gone up in price. We use to feed it to our lab which we lost 6 years ago. It was expensive then but not like now. Not sure on a retiree's income we could afford a dog again. But it is a good product.
