Is the rawhide in these small pieces that are put back together or a single piece? I'm concerned about the potential for intestinal blockage in the event that my dog might swallow a larger piece than he should.

Answer by JWendtJul 15, 2023
the first ingredient is 'beef rawhide'

I just received a bag of the product and about 75% of the chews have brown streaks on them - and I'm wondering if the ones with the brown streaks are safe to eat for my dog

What is the difference between these and the HEXtra chews?

Answer by ChewyDec 07, 2020
C.E.T. Enzymatic Oral Hygiene Chews feature an exclusive Dual-Enzyme System, plus a coarse texture that works with the dog’s chewing action to reduce plaque and calculus. C.E.T. HEXtra Premium Chews are made using the unique and proprietary binding-releasing system to ensure maximal release of chlorhexidine, which helps reduce plaque and calculus. Activity resulting from chlorhexidine release may be evident for up to 24 hours.

Size of medium?

Answer by ChewyMay 13, 2022
The Medium chews are on average size 6.25 inches in length by 2 inches in width.

I actually purchased this as a mistake at first. I wasn’t paying attention and accidentally purchased the tiny “cracker like” treats for my large dog! Ellie is a German Shepherd mix. So, we laughed about it at first. I gave Ellie a little dental chew and she gobbled it up. After a good laugh, I gave her one every night after dinner and she would chew it up like a cracker! After a week of giving her these tiny dental chews, she started begging for them. We give her these tiny dental large dental chews every morning for her teeth and she loves those too. Well, now we have a routine of one large dental chews every every morning and one small dental chew after dinner because she won’t allow us to stop giving her these tiny dental tiny dental chews! J. My dog absolutely loves these chews and goes crazy when he hears the bag. Unfortunately, he eats them way too fast and because of the flat shape, they sometimes get stuck to the roof of his mouth. I had to take him to the vet one time because he ate the bone way too fast and was sick for about a day and a half. My vet did research on the bones and found that there's no information regarding the digestibility of the bones, which means the company likely didn't do any research or testing. Everything ended up okay and my dog eventually passed the bone, but it's definitely something to be aware of! Flat-faced dogs like pugs and bulldogs (and really all dogs) should be closely supervised when eating these. Like I said, my dog really loves these bones and he ate about ten of them with no problems, but I won't be buying more of them because of the most recent incident.

Please be so careful with these. I did not realize they are rawhide due to the advertising as an “enzymatic chew” that was “easily digestible”. This company makes other chews that are VOHC approved - this chew is NOT one those! This is a strip of rawhide and it made my dog incredibly sick. Rawhide can cause intestinal blockages and choking even if you watch your dog closely while eating as it is known to expand after eating.

The Virbac chews are great. The only reason that I did not give 5 stars is that the thickness of the chews varies from bag to bag. I really wish they offered thin and thick chews in separate bags. I have to give away the thicker chews as my dog prefers the thin ones.

My dogs LOVEEE the large size ones. However the medium size ones, they won’t touch. They are all perfectly uniform and smell weird. So be aware. The large size ones have a coating on them and are rigit and all different shapes and sizes. It’s very odd. My photo shows the size large on the right and size medium on the left

These chews used to have more consistent thickness based on the weight range you buy. Some of the chews in this package are almost paper thin, while others are a generous 1/4” thick. My 60 lb standard poodle has healthy teeth and loves hard chewing, but she refuses to chew on the 1/4” chews from the medium dog pack (26-50lb), they’re just too much. More than half of the chews in the large dog pack are 1/4” or more thick and useless for my dog.

These were recommened to us by our vet, but I get really worried when the dogs chew them. The dogs LOVE them, but they start to get soft after a while and one of my dog's kind of got it stuck in their throat, they were fine but i thought they were going to chock. These are not for my dogs, but someone else might think they are the best thing. This is just only my opinion.
