What’s the difference between this and the original honest kitchen clusters?

Answer by ChewySep 01, 2025
Both Whole Food Clusters and Essential Clusters are 100% human grade and cold-pressed, roasted, and gently dehydrated to lock in nutrition and flavor. They are crafted in a human food facility with high safety and quality standards and never include GMO ingredients or fillers like corn, wheat, or soy. The key differences come down to ingredients and variety: - **Essential Clusters** are made with healthy whole grains, high-quality protein, and the essential vitamins and minerals dogs need to thrive. They are ideal for adult and senior dogs and include dual-protein options. - **Whole Food Clusters** build on that foundation with added superfoods like broccoli, kale, and carrots for extra health benefits. They also feature single-protein recipes and are boosted with probiotics to support digestion. This line also includes options tailored to puppies and small breed dogs.

What are the following amounts on a dry matter basis for the following: L-Carnitine, DL- Methionine and Taurine?

Answer by ChewySep 02, 2025
This recipe has a Methionine-cystine content of 0.79% on a dry matter basis. The taurine content is only available on an as-fed basis, which is 0.15%. This recipe doesn't have added L-Carnitine, and recent testing doesn't include L-Carnitine levels. However, it may be present naturally in small amounts in the meat.

Switched my dogs to this several months ago, have seen a huge improvement in their coats. Before, they had very dull fur and shed a ton. Since they've been on this food, they barely shed at all and their fur is healthy looking, thick and shiny. I also like that you can actually see the veggies in the food. Only drawback is because the food is gently cooked, it crumbles easily and there is some dust in the bottom of the bag. But you can just add some warm water to it and use as a topper. My dogs love it!!!

My pup has always been picky as well as having sensitivities and in her 6 years, she’s been on a variety of foods. I finally settled on a good brand which she does really well on but gets bored with it. Once I introduced The Honest Kitchen as a topper for dinner, oh my god she was in heaven!! I have to be careful with the fat content and so the turkey and chicken is the lowest. It means so much to know that not only does she love it but she does well with it despite her sensitivities!

My dog Raven loves, loves, loves The Honest Kitchen Essential Clusters turkey and chicken! She’s (thankfully) never been a very picky eater, but she gets excited for these clusters like they’re treats. She’s been so enthusiastic about meal time with these. I’m really glad they make a recipe that isn’t just chicken or beef. She loves beef, but it doesn’t really agree with her system and she gets tired of just getting chicken all the time. I also love that the ingredients are all human grade, whole foods that are roasted and dehydrated to retain nutrients. I know she’s getting a safe, high quality, and delicious meal.

Most commercial kibble smells and looks like grain. it's obvious that turkey and chicken is the main ingredient in this dog food by the color and smell and my dog eats it very well. I usually buy the honest kitchen grain free chicken clusters small breed but when I saw the chicken and turkey recipe I decided to try it. Ginger seems to like it more. I will continue to buy this.

This is the first time trying an Honest Kitchen dog food and my dog is pretty happy with it! I like that it is very limited ingredient and doesn't have a bunch of filler junk like most brands. The kibble is kinda weird and doesn't look like your typical kibble. I honestly wasn't sure my dog was going to like it. Thankfully she does! The kibble is a very light color and looks kind of gritty and very dry almost like a freeze dried food. The pieces are a decent size and would work for most sized dogs. I do have to mention that it kind of makes my dogs poop look a little weird. You can see what I'm assuming are flecks of oatmeal. At first I thought she had worms until I realized it was the food. The only problem I have with the food is it's a little higher in calories than I would like. I keep an eye on her weight just so she doesn't get too thick and have joint problems.

Caused stomach upset

Not sure why, but my dog couldn't handle this food. She loved it but threw it back up about 2 hours after eating it.

Zeke really enjoyed this dog food, though he certainly isn't picky! I liked the texture of the dog food, it's lighter, not as dense as others we've tried in the past. It also doesn't have a strong smell, which I really appreciate since that can get old after digging into the bag twice a day.

So I just got her new kibble in today. She eats mostly human grade because she’s well turning into a human. This Honest Kitchen oh man she loves it. I mixed with her old food for transitioning and she picked out every single piece that was new and ate it and left the old. Of course she wants one of the most expensive kibbles lol. It is what it is. If she likes it thats good enough for me because she’s such a picky eater. Hopefully I can get this again when there’s a little sale.

I love The Honest Kitchen and so do my pups. These clusters are gently roasted and then dehydrated to keep the nutrients intact. Great ingredients, as usual, with this company. Dogs were super excited when I opened the bag to empty into their kibble bin. These clusters are grain-inclusive. Two of my three pups thoroughly love these. My third pup is unable to eat these due to her lack of teeth and the hardness of the cluster, however, I will try to soak these in some broth for her to see how she does. Very happy with this brand as always!
