Why is this food advertised as having no poultry or poultry by product meal but has chicken meal listed as the second ingredient?

This recipe does not contain chicken by-products or poultry by-products, which is correct. Chicken meal is chicken meat that has been dried and ground up, and includes clean flesh, skin, and/or accompanying bone. By-product meal usually contains the "less desirable" parts and can include lungs, spleen, liver, and kidneys.

How many cups are in a bag?

There are approximately four cups per pound in all varieties of Instinct kibble. The 4.5lb bag will have approximately 18 cups and the 24lb bag will have approximately 96 cups per bag.

This dog food gave my dog diarrhea

After just two days on this dog food, my dog started having diarrhea. At first, I wasn’t sure it was caused by the food, but my dog has tried many different brands

After just two days on this dog food, my dog started having diarrhea. At first, I wasn’t sure it was caused by the food, but my dog has tried many different brands over the years and almost never gets diarrhea just from switching foods. So I decided to test it. I stopped feeding this food, and the diarrhea stopped within two days. Then I fed her homemade food for a week until her poop was stable. After that, I reintroduced this dog food by mixing it with the homemade food, and sure enough, within two days, the diarrhea came back. I repeated this entire test two more times, and every single time it ended the same way: diarrhea shortly after reintroducing this food. At this point, I’m confident this dog food is what’s making her sick. What’s frustrating is that she has eaten Instinct dog food with no issues, and she generally tolerates most other ingredients very well. I have no idea why this particular food causes such a strong reaction for her. My personal suspicion is that this batch may have been contaminated in some way. I really wanted this to work, but I can’t risk feeding it to her again.

New Recipe with Chicken Meal

This food - which has the same name as the former recipe which has been discontinued - includes chicken meal. There used to be 17 one-star reviews here from customers

This food - which has the same name as the former recipe which has been discontinued - includes chicken meal. There used to be 17 one-star reviews here from customers legitimately angry that Instinct (and Chewy) did not do more to alert them to an added ingredient that their dogs were sensitive to. It's not in the name, after all. The name is identical to the original recipe here: https://www.chewy.com/instinct-be-natural-real-salmon-brown/dp/170047 When the food by the same name was not in stock at Chewy, and I could not find it locally, I reached out to Instinct who wrote back that the original Salmon recipe had been discontinued. So I was surprised when I got an automated email that it was "back in stock" here. I reached out to Chewy about what Instinct had told me - and about my suspicion that the recipe that was back in stock was the one with chicken meal - and I got a very unconcerned response back reiterating that it was "back in stock". I wrote back to Chewy urging them to check the SKUs on the packages, and I mentioned all the bad reviews from people whose dogs had gotten sick on chicken meal. And the results is this: Chewy has removed all the one-star reviews, and you can still buy the food that the manufacturer says is discontinued. Chewy used to be known for its stellar customer service. What happened, Chewy? The uncaring response I got was disappointing, but deleting reviews that did what you did not - alert people to chicken meal in a new recipe - is underhanded and unethical.

I had been purchasing this food on auto ship for a couple of years. For some reason Chewy was telling me it had been discontinued when in fact it is still available
