How is this cooked?

Answer by ChewyMay 23, 2025
This food combines traditional kibble with freeze-dried raw pieces to provide a balanced diet for dogs. The kibble is cooked using a high-temperature extrusion process, which involves cooking the ingredients under high pressure and temperature to create the dry kibble. This process ensures the food is safe and shelf-stable. The freeze-dried raw pieces are added after the cooking process, preserving the natural nutrients and enzymes that can be sensitive to heat. This combination of cooked kibble and raw pieces aims to offer the benefits of both cooking methods, supporting your dog's digestive health and overall well-being.

I’ve given my dogs Instinct food before, however, their pallet changed, so we went to a different brand. However, this particular dog food was well received by both of my fur babies. In fact, my boxer mix wants it as a snack and for her dinners. She frequently goes up to the bag and barks at it, letting us know that she wants food. The only concern that I have is that the kibble is fairly small, so if you have dogs that are quick eaters, you may want to put it in a slow feeding dish. it would be nice if they made a larger kibble, for large breed dogs. Overall, we are very happy with the quality of this food and would purchase it again.

Not all dogs might like this

The ingredients are quality, and it seems to be a very good dog food. Not sure if my dogs (4 of them) just did not like it much, or it just was not a long enough time to get a better review of the product? My dogs were very picky with this food, and as much as they enjoyed the freeze-dried portion of the food, they did not seem to care much for the kibble portion. I mixed it with their normal dog food, and they would leave the new stuff in the bowl and eat their normal food, along with the freeze-dried pieces of the new food. Luckily I have some small Pocket Pets, they ended up Loving the kibble portion, so none of it went to waste!

Pups love this food

I like that the Instinct Raw Boost food is gut friendly with prebiotics and probiotics. Both dogs enjoyed the food, even our picky eater. He doesn't like most kibble and we always have to add stuff to his food to eat it, but he ate this without adding anything because it had the freeze-dried raw bits already in it.

My dogs loved it. Small kibble with small pieces of freeze dried chicken. Of course my dogs ate all the chicken cubes first. They usually stop there, but they loved the kibble as well. The pieces are small so not sure if a large dog or fast eater would aspirate the pieces. My large and small dogs had no problem. Not sure about the GI aspect, as it’s too early to tell. But no vomiting or diarrhea from my guys.

Started with the morning feeding. Gunner is picky at times. So he went to the bowl and sniffed it out. Walked away for a few moments and came back and took a piece of kibble to his carpet that he likes to eat his food on. Then went back to the bowl and got a mouth full and went back to the carpet to eat his breakfast. He seem to enjoy what he was eating. I really like that the bag has a resealable zippers. I always thought they should make dog food bags that way.

My dog really seems to enjoy the taste of this food. He dove right in with no hesitation. I have been mixing it with his usual food so I can’t tell if it’s had a positive effect on his gut health. While I have nothing negative to say about the product, I will most likely not change to this brand due to the cost to feed a 60 pound dog. I would consider it if I had a smaller dog.
