Always introduce a new food over a period of 5 - 7 days, mixing increasing amounts of Instinct with the current food each day.
Finally found a kibble that our persnickety cats can't wait to gobble. House and barn cats both go for this even before diving into the helping of their formerly fave canned foods. It's a bit pricey, but so is tossing bowls of rejected kibble.
So far all’s well. Maine Coon switched over easily. Still transitioning Tortie with sensitive stomach but no problems yet. High protein, low carb and they love the taste.
Our ferrets were on a mix of Orijen and Blue Buffalo. While the Orijen food is good, the Blue food hasnt been good to our ferrets. We now mix this, Orijen original cat, and Stella & Chewy’s meal mixers. They love the little bits of this food, and I swear it has turned the clock backwards for our oldest ferret. He’s gaining weight again, playful and happy! I was recommended this food by a local ferret shelter. If it does this much magic for ferrets; I’m sure it’ll work for your kitty, too!
This is the first time I had a cat. Before I just fed her food with best-selling products. Later I found those products had too much gluten, the first three ingredients contain 'Ground Yellow Corn', or 'corn'. Also, those contain 'Artificial and Natural Flavors', and BHA. Those foods are cheap, with less protein and high carbohydrates, I can spend $20 for 20lbs. My cat, Daiqing, ate half bag for 6 months because cat only eats less per day. Thus, although this product is expensive with less pounds, Daiqing can eat for 2 months because I feed her wet foods also. So, it's not very expensive for me. On the other hand, this product is gluten free with high protein. The first three ingredients are all animal product, the rest of ingredients don't have 'Artificial and Natural Flavors', or BHA, so this product is much healthier. In conclusion, this product is really good for cats, although it's little bit expensive, my cat can still eat for 2 months.
I've been buying this for several years, even though it was expensive at $7.50/lb but now, at $10.00/lb, it's become ridiculous. Unless you start carrying the 10lb bag the price per pound is prohibitive. In the meantime I will be trying Dr Elsey's Duck since my cats love Dr Elsey's Chicken & Salmon recipes and it has a higher protein percentage, 58% minimum, it too is clean protein, 95% and is $7.27/lb as opposed to $10.00/lb. Instinct is 47% minimum protein and 90% clean protein. Moreover, when on sale, as it is today, and using autoship, Dr Elsey drops to $6.00/lb.
I do not normally take the time to write a review, but this product deserves a review. I started my 19-year-old pudgy cat on this about 3 months ago. She was eating and drinking fine, but I was afraid she would get a heart attack due to her weight. I gently added this into her diet (first as a "treatie" and then later as part of her feeding; she loves it. Now this is her main food and she is losing weight, her eyes are bright and she plays like a young cat. This food works very well and I am hoping to work it into my young male, who has crystal problems in his urinary track. We shall see....
We use this product as a "treat" for our cat, Fred. We supplement his regular cat food with this product. Fred loves it!
I wish I didn't have to rate this item cause the only problem is the size of the kimbles it showed a picture of them and saying actual size so this is telling me they are bigger then the others cause my cat won't eat them they are very small and they weren't that size that it showed .So I'm not rating the food just the size of the kimbles
We always thought we were feeding our cats good food, but from cat nutrition reviews most all mainstream pet food is suitable for chicken feed, so we had been feeding our Savannah Tau and Bengal Ari 10 and 8 yrs. old Blue Wilderness, which is considered middle of the road food, but we wanted something much better. Instinct Ultimate Protein fit the bill, great quality ingredients, right size kibble, shiny coats, plenty of energy, between 2 cats they get 1/3 of a cup 3 times a day plus some wet food, Blue Wilderness chicken flavor because that’s all our Bengal Ari will eat, that’s, both cats are proper weight. The food is expensive, but that’s not an issue, Fast delivery ordered on a Tuesday night and had on Thursday, here in the Midwest.
My vet thinks my kitty has a good allergy. He was starving rather than eat the royal Canine hydrolyzed protein kibble. This is mostly duck and he dove in and has been loving it since. Hoping the scratching doesn't come back when the DEPO shot wears off.
