Feeding Instructions

Jiminy’s Good Grub Dog Food

Good Grub is a sustainable, nutrient-dense dog food made with a novel protein that delivers holistic health for adult dogs. Oven-baked, veterinarian formulated, and highly digestible, it’s a great choice—even for dogs with food allergies.

Great for Dogs with Food Allergies

Made with a novel insect protein higher in B-vitamins, amino acids, medium-chain fatty acids, minerals, antimicrobial peptides, lauric acid, and antioxidants than traditional protein to help boost brain health, joint health, and immunity.

Highly Digestible, Complete Protein

Insects are a key component of wild dogs’ diets, so dogs are naturally able to digest them easily. Because they’re a prebiotic, they feed your dog’s healthy gut bacteria, and insect protein also supports healthy skin and coat.

I recently got these dog treats, and I have to say, my 60 lb dog is all about them! As soon as I grab the bag, he sits down, tail wagging, anxiously waiting for his snack. He clearly loves them. What I really like about these treats is that they’re on the firmer side. Since my dog is a big guy, he usually inhales his treats super fast, but these slow him down a bit. He actually chews them a few times, which makes me feel better knowing he’s getting a more satisfying experience. Another cool thing is that these treats are made with insect protein (grubs). I love that it’s not only good for my dog but also better for the environment. It’s awesome to be able to give my dog something he enjoys while feeling good about the eco-friendly aspect. All in all, I’m super happy with these treats and will definitely keep giving them to my dog!

At first glance, these seem great! Peanut butter, cranberry and oats? Heck yeah! “Crafted without the use of corn, wheat or soy,” sounds good to me. But the more you look at and read the package with the bullet points and ingredients, it gets worse. I support “HAPPY PETS” and a “HEALTHY PLANET,” but my pets won’t be healthy feeding them “protein from grubs,” which is listed out on the back as “Dried Black Soldier Fly Larvae.” In other words, maggots. “Black soldier fly larvae are maggot-like creatures that are commonly found in manure, garbage, decaying organic material, and compost piles. They are the larvae of the black soldier fly, Hermetia illucens.” Jiminy marketing is heavily focused on sustainability and reducing “your dog’s carbon pawprint.” Sustainability isn’t a bad thing but playing on trendy buzzwords and utilizing an agenda to push insect proteins as healthy alternatives for pet consumption isn’t really something I support. Both of my dogs have skin allergies, which I’ve been able to manage after a lot of trial and error. One of my dogs is EXTREMELY sensitive on which proteins he can have that don’t provoke his skin allergies to flare up. Vets don’t recommend different proteins when it comes to food and treats. My vet has specifically cautioned against mixing proteins, even in treats, so I will not be giving these treats to my dogs for reasons which are mentioned above. If these were just peanut butter, cranberry and oats, I’d give them to my dogs. Treats are not sources of nutrition and protein I rely on. Treats are that, treats. I don’t feel like it would be much of a treat for a pet to consume protein from “grubs” unless it’s a reptile.

I received this to try for my 4 dogs 3 large and 1 small , I got mainly for the small dog Rona due to her being elderly & she can only eat soft treats . So opened , not much of a scent , but to me smells like grass ,these are small rectangle shape , more like a training treat , they are not really soft but I gave a few to Rona and she ate them right up , she loves them & was looking for more . But with every new treat I give just about 3-4 pieces a day just to make sure she can handle them . Well it has been 3 days & when I open the bag she smells them & comes running . As for my 3 large dogs , Emma, Virgil and Raven they too love them , but since there is oats in them Virgil & Emma can not get as often , but I want to see how Rona does after about 2 weeks & if she tolerates them I will buy them , because she does a happy dance & simply loves them . And it is a great alternative to animal meat and much better for the planet in the long run .

The good grub peanut butter and cranberry treats are not too bad. They are not as soft as I would like them to be, but my dogs just scarfed them down. They are about the size of a dime. The smells is different. I don't think the dogs minded the smell. They seemed to like them. I did have to make sure my one bulldog did not react to them since they are made with insects. She is allergic to cockroaches so I was pleased she did not have an issue.
