Yes. Each of our canine daily diets have gone through Evidence-Based Research at a major university. Since day one, we have balanced our food to National Research Council (NRC) standards. The NRC reports directly to the FDA and is the most up-to-date authority on nutritional guidelines. Our feline recipe is formulated to meet the 2016 AAFCO nutritional profiles for feline maintenance.
The easiest way to feed fresh is to get into a cycle of freezer to refrigerator to bowl. Remove the package from the freezer and defrost in the refrigerator (preferred), or immerse in cold water. Store in the refrigerator in a glass or plastic container and then serve the recommended amount. JustFoodForDogs lasts for a year when frozen.
You want to think about your dog’s fresh food the same way you do your own. An hour, or even two is not going to be a problem, but if you accidentally leave it out overnight, it should be thrown away.

My senior dog started showing an aversion to poultry, so I gave this a try despite the high price. After the initial newness has worn off he seems a bit less excited about it, but he'll still eat it, and that's much better than before. He also seems to be having less GI issues, but I can't say for sure if that's due to the food switch. While I'm thankful for this being an option, there are a couple things I feel could be better considering the price. The sweet potato pieces are pretty undercooked, and many even have the skin still on. This probably isn't a issue for most dogs, but for my small senior dog with a collapsing trachea it is, and I end up spending time going through and mashing the sweet potato pieces before feeding him. I've also found a really hard chunk of something in one bag (petrified sweet potato? bone fragment?). If I could find ground venison locally, I'd just make it myself. Despite my complaints, I still think this is a good quality food, and a great option for dogs that can't eat poultry or beef. One last thing that bugged me, but isn't about the food-when I opened the shipping box, the dry ice had somehow broken free of the bag and was loose everywhere. Hopefully just a one time accident, but still annoying.
We started our little Havanese mix that has been diagnosed with IBD on the Venison and Squash Recipe. Buddy absolutely loves it! Seems to be helping with his illness, but he's only been on it for a week and half. Very hopeful that it will continue to improve.
My newly adopted dog has terrible food sensitivities to chicken, turkey, beef, fish, and pork. His skin was dry and flaky, very prone to ear infections, all stemming from food allergies. Venison is one of the only proteins I can give him and this food has worked wonders. Though it is expensive as my boy is 85lbs and can go through a whole pouch in a day, it’s great to mix into kibble to save some money. Pricey, but well worth it if you have limited protein options.
This is the second time my pups have tried the Just Food for Dogs. They are big fans! I try to feed my dogs a mix of raw and dry dog food. I’ve tried a few brands & some are very pricey and I run thru them so quickly, some just smell horrible. I’m been impressed with this. Granted, I wouldn’t eat it but my dogs LOVE it. I mix 4-6 tablespoons in with their dry food and even my picky eater gulps it down. The packets come in airtight plastic packages and frozen. Just take from the freezer & pop in the fridge to thaw. It’s been so hot in SC lately, I’ve been crumbling it in their food when it’s still partially frozen. The one thing I’d change is the packaging. While it’s easy, I don’t use an entire package at every feeding. The packages aren’t resealable. It would be fantastic if they were in resealable pouches!
Just food for dogs is the BEST Frozen dog food I ever bought!!!!! I have a female Chihuahua named Sophie and she is so picky and so fussy when it comes to her food and her treats...well this frozen food she literally RAN over to smell it then ate the entire portion I gave her then licked the bowl clean!!!! She is trained to know when it's time to eat so at certain times in the day she runs to her bowl and barks at me and as soon as she sees her just food for dogs VENISON and Squash Recipe she barks and wags her tail ....this is an amazing product and very healthy for your dogs....if you haven't bought this brand I suggest you try it out for your dog at meal time.... especially if you have a fussy eater...your fussy eater will love this venison and squash recipe!!!! I don't plan on buying ANY other frozen dog food ...from now on my dog will only eat JUST FOOD FOR DOGS!!!!! my dog is happy which makes me happy ....
I have a Pom and a pitbull, both are very picky, and both gobbled this flavor right up. I received this product as part of a free sample program however, I will review it honestly. I would say the best thing about this product is that when you look at it in the packaging, it looks like human food. I love being able to feed my dogs things like this. I sometimes will cook for them, so this was a very nice product because it appears as if I cooked it. The ingredients are impressive. I’m not going to lie. Your dogs will probably have soft bowel movement after eating this the First time, maybe even the second, but it didn’t cause any upset tummies. It also didn’t cause any weird skin/coat reactions, which is a huge concern for my pups.
Sadie, my 8 yo Bloodhound, has had GI issues forever. Upon recommendation of a nutritionist, I started making the DIY version of this to see how she would do. Within a week, she stopped being sick. In 2 weeks her energy started coming back. In a month, she is acting like a puppy again! The DIY version is a lot of work and I can’t always find venison. The frozen version has been life changing for all of us!
I’ve been using this as a supplement to my dogs normal dry food. She loves it! I mix about 2 teaspoons with her 3/4 of a cup of dry. She’s been gobbling down her meals, when she is usually an indifferent eater. I had tried the vegetarian version, too and I think I liked that a little more for her. This one did seem to give her some stomach issues when we first started it, but they did resolve themselves fairly quickly. I did receive this product free in exchange for a review.
My very picky Yorkie has an insatiable appetite. He loves to eat, however, he is extremely picky about what he eats. I have purchased all kinds of dog food to try and find a food that he would like. I hit the jackpot with this food! He absolutely loves it! While he likes how it taste, I love that it is made with real ingredients that are good for him and I can feel good about giving him.
I have tried many brands of fresh food for my little dogs and they absolutely love these meals. Everything arrived on time and was still frozen when delivered! they actually excited to eat. they like all the flavors too. My dogs are kinda picky with dog food since they’re dried and have less flavor. Highly recommend.
