We were really hoping to find food for our chickens through Chewy to be conveniently delivered along with out pet food. This chicken food looked great but our chickens will not eat it. Not sure why but they haven't touched it. Hopefully Chewy will start to add more brands of chicken food options to their inventory.
I was looking for an organic layer feed with more protein and this was perfect. The girls (I have 8) love it and I like the ingredients.
The chickens love this stuff and it works well with the Kalmbach starter feed. Great stuff! Thanks. A+
During the pandemic, our local feed store was not taking health precautions seriously and I found myself forced to order bags of chicken feed online. Prior to this, our young girls had been raised on Manna Pro organic starter pellets and then switched to the layer pellets of the same brand that we had always used with our older hens. From the beginning, the Kalmbach Organic Layer Pellets arrived fresh every time with very little dust. More importantly, we have not changed anything else about how we have raised this young flock compared to our older birds and they are healthier and happier than most of their older "sisters" ever were. We are getting two dozen eggs a week from four birds who are laying eggs with thick shells and beautiful yolks. Two of the four birds are laying extra large or jumbo eggs EVERY DAY, helping to justify the price of this food. One of our older birds had been ill and not expected to recover, yet she is an active, healthy member of the flock months later. Their new food has been perfect in every way and I will continue to buy it in the (hopefully) pandemic-free future.
I bought this product recently primarily because it is labeled organic, but I will probably not buy it again. When I opened the bag, the bag was about 1/3rd filled with seed hulls. This may not sound all that drastic but chickens won't (and didn't) eat the hulls because they are almost dust-sized and disappear into the dirt. So I paid for a bag that a third of the volume in the bag was useless. I would recommend NOT buying this product.
