Oyster not flaked shelled anymore?
My ducks would eat these. I bought another bag and they are so different now, not flakes? What happened? Why change?
Used to be great!
My little snobs/ducks loved this brand of oyster shells, but it has changed and they will no longer eat it. I would give it a 5 star for before and a 1 star for now.
Glad it's back to normal
I'm glad the oyster shell was just as it has been! Sadly my feed was 5 months old(this is only the second time in 2 years this had happened)and had some moldy pieces in it so I cannot feed it to my ladies
NOT oyster shell...
This is not flaked oyster shell but seashells that my chickens won't touch. Waste of money
Flaked Oyster Shell
I prefer giving my chickens and ducks the flaked oyster shell, and Small Pet Select is one of the few companies still offering it.
Good quality, flaked oyster shell
My flock loves this flaked oyster shell so much better than the pebble variety. Happy that it's available again!
Practically overnight results
I could tell that my girls were somewhat calcium deficient by how rough and thin their shells were, but once I accidentally dropped a cracked eggshell meant for the non-chicken compost into their run and they went wild for the bits, I realized I couldn't ignore their needs any longer and immediately ordered this bag of oyster shell. It arrived to my rural location in days, and practically overnight I could see the difference in their eggs. A little bit goes a long way (I've just been sprinkling a little bit on top of their feed every day), and it's well worth adding to their diet.
Smells like seashells!
We had originally used pelleted oyster shell... I think from Manna, but the girls didn't seem to touch it. It was little small white crumbles... like chalk. I ordered this on a whim and was super impressed to see this was actual crunchy oyster shell. It sounds weird, but my kids and I loved smelling the open bag because it reminded us of the beach (not a fishy smell, but an ocean/salty smell). The girls have been eating this more than the other stuff we've used and we got our first egg a few days ago! Nice hard shell too!
Great product-Great price
I had been on a subscription program for a similar oyster shell product. They had to discontinue this service due to product unavailability until at least September. Went to the hard white stone type oyster shell and knew this wasn’t the best I could do for my ducks. I saw this and decided why not? This is the thin, flaky shell I was looking for. Cheaper than my previous subscription, which also charged nearly as much for shipping as the product itself. Try this, I don’t think you’ve disappointed!
WARNING - NOT OYSTER SHELL!!!
Previously this was an excellent, high-quality product. Following the oyster shell shortage it was out of stock for months. I was thrilled to find it recently back in stock and ordered 50 lbs only to find it is crushed seashells and/or clamshells and NOT the softer and more digestible flaked oyster shell. This type of shell IS NOT widely recommended for poultry due to its hardness and riskier shape. Contacted Small Pet Select who verified this was a huge judgement error by the warehouse and they have received many complaints. Chewy issued a full refund.
