What exactly is grit & where would I purchase it? Also, would a small amount of this feed harm baby ducks? (4 weeks old approximately) I provide feed to the adult Pekin ducks in the neighborhood lake, & recently the brown duck babies & their Mama have come running at mealtime.

Answer by ChewyNov 27, 2019
This formula is to be feed to chicken and ducks that are 20 weeks of age and on. The grit that would need to be added is available on the manufacturers website.

Is the ground limestone a substitute for grit or should you still add the grit?

Answer by ChewyNov 18, 2019
It's recommended to feed free choice Layer Grit in a separate container to aid in digestion.

I really loved the ingredients which is why I bought this at least 4 times. It was a favorite for several of my birds. I used it as the third taste treat in their bowls, This last bag is a mess. Small sticks and sharp pieces of straw. Chaff, every scoop every handful. It could easily lodge in the throat or scratch the throat. Possibly cause infection. There are large dried up flower heads of some kind as well. And, as others said, lots of just powder. It looks like seaweed so I don't mind, that won't hurt them, but sharp little bits could. I spend a ridiculous amount of time trying to remove these sharp sticks and straw to salvage what I can, but just can't get them all. The ingredients are so good. Just need better sifting. Don't know if I should risk buying again.

I have ordered this many times thru Chewy mostly but also another supplier. This is the first bag that looked odd. Lots of sticks and ‘furry’ pieces my chickens won’t eat. Also a lot of empty grain pieces. Not the usual for this item. Not sure my chickens are getting enough nutrition with it either. May cancel my subscription and try another brand.

My small group of hens have had a history of being very particular. I've noticed that they don't like to eat anything that's very large in size. This includes the standard pellet feed. Also, in spite of the fact that most people seem to think that chickens don't have taste buds, I've noticed my chickens have very distinct tastes. They have been very particular about what they eat, constantly fishing through the feed to look for the best tidbits. I have bought and used a large number of products only to be met with tolerance at best. This feed has been the most successful for my picky flock. They like it and they eat almost all of it, with only a smattering of leaving behind the bits they think are less desirable.

The versatility

The mix is superb. You can soak it and sprout it or ferment it for added nutrients for your chickens.

I've been ordering this product for three years and have noticed the ingredients change 2-3 times (eliminating crab meal, then black soldier fly) but was still pleased with the remaining contents until receiving this last bag- it was a horrible waste of money, time and effort. There were hardly any lentils and mostly lentil skins and lots of what look like large wheat ears.

Great Feed for Layers

They recommend fermentation. There are directions for how to do ferment on the bag! The hens love it strait too! They eat it out of my hand!

Too much Powder!

The last 4 bags I purchased have so much powder, I ferment the grain, but my hens will not eat the wet powder, and if its dry they don't touch it. It's way to expensive
