I just bought this “KONG” catnip, should I put the tin container in the freezer for freshness or is there a better method? Thank you

You can choose to store this tightly closed in a dry cool area or tightly in the freezer. Pet parents report preservation of aroma and flavor through freezing.

What is the best way to store catnip? Out, in the fridge, or freezer?

It's recommended to store dried catnip in plastic bags in a cool area. You can also freeze catnip.
What is the shelf life for an opened tin of this product, or an unopened tin? Lastly, I usually use a spice mill to pulverize the catnip to get rid of the sticks and stems. This makes the catnip easier to put on toys. Is this okay and does it change the shelf life?

There isn’t a specific date on shelf life. It is basically like any other herb used in cooking, and those are typically useful for several years. It doesn’t go bad, it just won’t be as potent/flavorful once it is opened and significant time passes. It will last longer when the tin is closed and stored in a cool & dry location. In terms of grinding it, that will agitate and release more of the oils in the plant and would theoretically give it a boost in terms of short-term potency. It would be best to grind it only as needed between uses. (Unground herbs have the longest shelf life because less of their surface area is exposed to the elements. This allows them to retain their oils and flavor longer.)

Crawling with little bugs!

I ordered this in my last recurring order. I thought Kong's name had a long standing history of quality for dog products. I opened this and started to provide to two of my cats and they were jumping. Upon closer look there were lots of little bugs crawling around in the catnip itself. I quickly got the vacuum and sucked up the two piles. Once clean, i looked in the view hole on the tin and you could even see the bugs crawling around in the lower portion of the tin. SOOOO many bugs. The lid was put back on and the tin was put promptly in the trash. Waste of $$ and will not be buying this brand again. No quality control.

Cats Love it!

This is my second batch. My kitties look forward to a little pinch now and again. I also freshen their toys in the catnip for a fun dessert. Great product!

Pretty Good

I've used this product for many years and with this new order it seems the effects of the catnip are not as long lasting as it used to be. Our 3 cats still enjoy it but they move on to other things more quickly.
