About Kurgo Gear

Kurgo believes that your dog deserves to go everywhere you go, safely and comfortably. Way back in the early 2000s, before dog travel gear was a thing, Kurgo set out to solve a problem: how to keep the family dog from jumping in the front seat of the car. After lots of brainstorming and prototypes, their Backseat Barrier was born. Twenty plus years later, they’re still finding new ways for you and your dog to go together in confidence.

Questions & Answers

16 Customer Questions

I'm looking at this and wondering if it hinders airflow for those like myself that have a vent at the back of the center console.

Answer by ChewyJul 23, 2018
This bridge will block the center console facing the back seat of your vehicle while in use.

How does this product distribute the weight of the dog? It's says it's for dogs up to 100 pounds, but does that mean there could be 100 lbs.of pressure pulling on the straps that connect to the front seats?

Answer by ChewySep 24, 2018
The bridge must sit on the seat in order to evenly distribute the weight. A majority of the bridge is supported by the bench seat itself, which is why the space in between the back of seat to seat edge should not be greater than 13 inches.

Can you fold the middle cup holder portion down, so it doesn't block the air conditioning? My dog is older and loves the AC - I would hate to block this.

Answer by ChewySep 01, 2018
Folding the Center console barrier may damage the bridge as the center console barrier cannot hold up to sustained pressure.

I am short so the back of my seat to the edge of the backseat comes to 15" when I drive. If I keep my dog on the other side of the car, where there is 13" or less between the two seats, can I still use this bridge while driving?

Answer by ChewySep 02, 2018
The space between the back of the front seat and backseat edge should be 13 inches or less. Continuous adjustment of the front seats may damage the bridge.

Useless

The flap that is supposed to keep the dogs out of the front seat can easily be pushed down. My dog took 5 seconds to do so and get into the front seat.

It kept him from sliding into the console between the seats.

It gave our 70 pound pup more room to move around. He actually laid down several times during the 4 hour trip.

Sturdy

Sturdy yet thin so it’s not big and bulky. I have a medium size dog seat that I hand from both of the front seats so I can reach her but still can use the console

Sturdy yet thin so it’s not big and bulky. I have a medium size dog seat that I hand from both of the front seats so I can reach her but still can use the console. My granddog is a large English Pointer and it supports her seat so that when she leans forward her seat no longer tips. So it works great with dog seats & definitely works well on its own!!! Great find!! I have already recommended to everyone I know with larger dogs as well as smaller dogs.

Robust construction, irritating straps and blocks rear air vents

It’s made of strong, tear resistant fabric and does a good job of covering the rear seat footwells. However the straps are clunky to use, and the back panel covers

It’s made of strong, tear resistant fabric and does a good job of covering the rear seat footwells. However the straps are clunky to use, and the back panel covers the rear air vents in my Subaru Outback so there is very little cooling getting back there. Also, doesn’t protect the rear seat fabric, so you have to add an additional cover.

Better brands available

This is not long enough to keep dogs from moving it around which is why I do not recommend it at all.

Strong

I use it as a bridge w/ back seats folded down, works great. My 70 lb dog ends up sitting on it completely & I've had no problems.

Love!

I love this car barrier because it fills the gap between the front and back seats. Have to keep my fur babies safe and not fall in the gap.

Great customer service

I liked the item but my dog didn’t. I was able to get a full refund and didn’t have to mail it back. I was told to donate it to a shelter.
