This product is intended for hoods. The hoof should be free of dirt and other contaminants.

I acquired an 11-yr-old "Off the Track" thoroughbred five years ago with flat, soft soles and frequent abscesses. It has been an ongoing project requiring frequent trims, products and hoof boots. For years I used an expensive hoof hardener from Europe, but a year ago my farrier told me about Hoof Guard. This product has made a huge difference! It hardens the hoof without compromising the integrity. I used to have to keep hoof boots on my horse so that he'd be comfortable enough to run in his paddock, however, after months of using this product, he is finally happily kicking up his heels! In addition, the hooves look beautifully polished for at least a week after application. I apply weekly and have hooves trimmed every 4-5wks after seeing dramatic improvement. Bottle goes a long way.

Horribly strong smell

You have to pour it out into a container with a good sealing lid. The noxious Oder is too strong to leave it open in your tack shed. Also buy some cheap disposable

Hoof Guard is truly the magic glue that keeps my OTTB's hooves together in between farrier appointments. You can easily tell if I slack and miss an application or two, as my horse's hooves are immediately lacking in that extra layer of protection that keeps his two shoes secure in 24/7 turnout on 10 acres. Without Hoof Guard, my guy would not have the healthy hooves that he currently has today.

Our horse Cyrus has thin inner soles so it is very important to keep his hoof strong and not brittle. The reason is because they have a huge pasture with a lake to run about as well as to graze in. Cyrus's hooves get wet and dry for several hours a day, so this product is one we highly recommend.
