Is the 25-lb bag of Lotus the oven-baked recipe? I notice that is doesn't say that it is explicitly. The bag looks the same as the smaller "oven-baked small bites recipe" though. Can anyone help?
Answer by ChewyJun 17, 2021
This recipe for this food is oven-baked regardless of the bag sizing.

How many cups in 25 lbs bag?
Answer by ChewyMay 09, 2018
There's approximately 20 cups of food in the 5 pound bag, 50 cups of food in the 12.5 pound bag, and 100 cups of food in the 25 pound bag.

Caloric values are not listed. Any reason?
Answer by ChewySep 08, 2020
This recipe contains 375.7 kilocalories per cup.

I was wanting the lotus small bites for seniors in the 25lb. bag. I see the large bag is cheaper than the 12lb. It doesn’t come in the large 25lb. bag?
Answer by ChewyAug 01, 2018
The 12.5-lb is currently the largest size offered for that Lotus small breed formula. Small bites formulas, like cat food formulas, generally come in smaller bags because the kibble is eaten at a slower pace or in smaller portions for small breed dogs.

Better than Rx

This is the most expensive bag of dog food I've ever purchased but well worth the coat. My now 15 year old Australian Shepherd was diagnosed with early stages of kidney disease when he was 8. Over the first few years after his diagnosis we tried every possible option for dry and canned prescription kidney diets and he hated them all. He would just stave himself until we gave in and fed him the other dog's food. After thorough research I found Lotus senior formula which is low in phosphorus compared to a regular adult kibble. My boy has been on this food for almost 3 years now and his last 2 blood panels have come back completely normal. I didn't even know kidney disease could heal itself but our vet was thrilled and said his diet saved him.

kibble is a bit large in size for small dogs

The ingredients and quality of this food are excellent, but I bought it for my 12 year old silky terrier and she picks all of it out (I mix it with her old food) I don’t believe it’s the taste though, I believe it has something to do with the kibble size. Compared to other small dog food the size of the kibble is significantly larger so just take that into consideration when buying this food for an older small dog! If they had a smaller kibble size I would absolutely try it

Senior Tasty Treat

Lotus is the best senior food dry kibble yet to be found. My 63 lb. Spring spaniel can not get enough of Lotus!

Great for a substitute of low calorie training treats!

I specifically use a low calories dry dog food as agility training treats to keep the dogs fit. I love how the color of Louts kibbles is lighter than most other brands kibbles. It makes it easy for the dogs as well as me to spot when tossed on the ground.

Senior Girl Loves It!

My senior broke into this bag that was under the Christmas tree to help herself to this food which she obviously finds yummy! Wonderful formula too. Not as expensive as other premium brands with the vitamins, minerals & amino acids I want.

Multivitamin

I gave this product 5 stars because it is all natural, and my dog loved the chicken flavor! Unfortunately, my dog has renal disease and and I have to make sure that foods contain low amounts or no phosphorus. Unfortunately, this multivitamin contains phosphorus. It's a shame because my dog is fussy and this is the first brand that she loved. Be careful to check first! I forgot, and then remembered.

Great for picky senior dog

We've had a terrible time trying to find a low phosphorus and lower protein dry dog food for my senior dog with kidney issues. Most of the prescription brands have trash ingredients (here's looking at you Purina, Royal Canin and Hill's), and my dog refused to eat Blue Buffalo's kidney support diet. In my search for a different food, I stumbled across this brand. Its phosphorus level is on the higher end of the Blue Buffalo's range (this is .49%, Blue Buffalo's range is .25-.55%) and the protein is a little higher (18% vs. 14%), but it's been a lifesaver as far as my picky dog is concerned. As soon as I put it in her bowl the first time, she gobbled it right up. I rotate it with the BB canned KS diet (which she fortunately likes better than the dry version) to lower her phosphorus intake further. And the ingredients are great!

The Best Nutrition!

Oliver just turned 8 and he’s a little chunky. I have been feeding very nutrient dense high calorie food so that’s no surprise. I was concerned that switching to a chicken based low protein low fat food would be difficult for him. We tried a couple of other senior formulas but this Lotus is by far his favorite! I feel good about feeding the oven baked and the ingredient sourcing is superior. Added value—we love the fancy packaging design. I’m hoping for a 10# weight loos for Ollie!
