Mandatory for my big goldfish tank!

    By on Top 100 Contributor

Goldfish are notorious for producing lots of ammonia. This stuff along with activated charcoal pellets, inside my 350 gal/hr Eheim canister filter, keeps my 75 gal tank clear and non stinky. I've found putting the carbon and ammonia reducing media into mesh bags, shortens my cleaning time for full filter system breakdown and rebuilding. With media inside bags, it is simple to thoroughly rinse off any crumbles and dust, which could damage the impeller and cloud the water if this step is omitted. I'm glad this stuff comes in a large container, as I need more than 1.5 cups of each media type on every filter maintenance session. Couldn't imagine keeping goldfish without this stuff!

Can add this to filters since most filters don't add this to theres. Really does help keep ammonia down in my tank.

I mix these with Charcoal for my Axolotl, turtle, Frilled Lizard and water dragon water. It works exceptionally. They also sell this already mixed with charcoal.

    Nothing can beat Zeolite

    By on Top 250 Contributor

Marineland Ammonia Neutralizing Crystals is compose of zeolite, a naturally occurring rock. In nature, Zeolite can be contaminated with many different metals and substances, but marineland's rocks are pure unpolished zeolite, and they're just the right size! Similar products tend to be bulkier, and being said, their size limits as to how much you can add to a media bag. These little rocks provide a great surface area for water to run over them, which enhances their ammonia-reducing ability. Overall a great product, and I recommend it!
