Is your USA raised chicken then shipped, processed, and returned to and from China? I've learned that is the case for human grade chicken also.

Does this contain any GMO ingredients?
Answer by ChewyJan 23, 2020
Merrick recipes use fruits, vegetables and whole grains that are GMO-free. While they use only USDA-inspected protein options in the dog food and treats, they cannot guarantee that the diets of all the animals that provide the protein sources are GMO-free.

How should this food be stored?
Answer by ChewyDec 01, 2022
The kibble has a shelf life of 21 months. There is a "best before" date stamped in black ink on the back of the bag, toward the top. After opening, keep the bag sealed in an air tight container or with bag clips.

About how many cups in the 22lb bag? I want to estimate how often to do auto-shipment. Thank you.
Answer by ChewySep 11, 2018
Each pound of kibble equates to approximately 4 cups. The 4 pound bag will make 16 cups, the 12 pound bag will make 48 cups, and the 22 pound bag will make 88 cups.

Good quality

This is a Wholedog Journal-approved food with appropriate nutrient percentages for my dogs' life stages. It's a good option if your dog eats a raw/kibble diet and needs poultry-free food. The kibble pieces are a bit smaller than many, which is better for digestion. (Could be even smaller, TBH.) The raw pieces are a treat, not part of the meal. You'll need to ration them, and at least 1/4 of the bag won't have any pieces at all. I feed this and another more affordable, higher-quality kibble, along with raw.

price increase

My pup has a very sensitive stomach and used to love this food, but lately I’ve been noticing a change in the last couple of bags. On top of the ridiculous price increase I’m noticing a decline in the quality of the food and so is my pups stomach. There are barely any freeze dried pieces and the other food pieces just look different. I’m upset that I’ll have to yet again go through trial and error to find another food that agrees with my dogs stomach. I understand the need to increase the price since everything is going up lately, but going up almost $20 is ridiculous and to change the quality of your food. Not good!!

Merrick great plains red recipe

My 2 dogs were very finicky about food and I've switched a number of times to different brands. After trying Merrick great plains red recipe, they devour their food.

great for sensitive tummies!!

I’m on my 3rd bag of this food. And so far absolutely no issues! Honeys stomach is very sensitive but so far this is the 2nd food that works with her and we have no issues. She absolutely loves this with a little bone broth.

Less bites, 10 dollar price increase

I'm very sad because my dog's love this dog food but with the price up to over $80 a bag and hardly any bites now, I'm gonna have to find something different. Even if the new one is the same price I'd still feel better about it because I don't like that this one isnt including many of the freeze dried bites. It's a total rip off with this price. Everything in our lives is going up, the least they could do is keep the product quality.

I had to change - no freeze dried bits

We've been ordering this brand for the past 2.5 years. It changed. They no longer add the big bits of freeze dried food as seen in the picture. I gave them many chances hoping it was a bad batch. Nope. Last 6 bags were no good. I'm done with this money grab.

Made dog sick

I am not sure what is actually in this food but my dog has never been so sick in his entire life. Had him on this food for a week, he’s scratching nonstop, no solid bowel movements, hot spots. He is allergic to chicken which this is not supposed to have in it but it clearly has something bad in it. Now need to pay the vet to fix my dog. Would not recommend this food

What I was looking for

My dog is allergic to chicken, lamb, and fish. so finding a dog food without is really difficult. The dog likes it so I'm glad I found this. Almost all dog foods seem to have chicken which is really irritating.
