5-mg/ml 60 ml
My cat needed a lesser dosage and concentration than the 10 mg. It is very runny and hard to keep in food to feed my cat. It is also way too much of an amount to give her and get her to eat everyday with that in it cuz it just runs through the food and into the bowl everywhere. This bottle and the syringe are terrible the worst I've gotten and I've gotten medications that are compounded oil-based and different flavors at different pharmacies and now tried chewy cuz it was a little bit cheaper and I was ordering food anyway. After using the syringe and bottle to give it to her for only a few weeks the syringe popped right through the hole in the bottle without much force so now it runs all over the bottle my hands and into the it started dripping and leaking when I push the syringe firmly into the hole sink every time I have to give her some of the medicine, which makes it even haro get the full amount she needs either at all or with a lot of air bubbles which causes more waste having to repeatedly try to get the right amount without air bubbles in it and it's slipping and sliding all over the place. The syringe is way too small and pointy and I think that's why it easily popped the hole open to be too big for the syringe. Plus I agree with other reviews that the syringe is very hard to use, getting stuck sliding it back and forth and even taking it out to rinse the two pieces out is hard and gets stuck! It really stinks too and it's hard to get rid of the smell. My cat takes a lot longer eating the portion of food that I have to put this runny medicine in and by mouth has been even worse. I won't even try that again there's globs of it that got stuck last time in her beautiful long white mane on her neck. I wish I would have had time and thought of trying to get a replacement or refund when it first started to happen as a defective bottle because it is definitely defective! This is definitely not worth saving a few bucks over buying it at a pharmacy that I can go pick up the same day or no later than the next day directly that actually has syringes and bottles that are made well, fit together well without any leakage at all and that you can use for this oily runny substance that we have to give our pets. Way too much waste of the medicine and I will never buy any medicine from chewy again after my experience with this one! There's still a lot of medicine left in the bottle that I can use for a while, but I have to buy a new one because this one is too hard to use, it's too messy and it takes a long time to get rid of the smell and wash it off my hands.
not made to order
preface: i have never had any issue with chewy, until this order. when ordering this, i thought they made it to order (just like my vet does). apparently, they make it and put it on a shelf until an order is placed. although the product was still inside the expiration date, it had a VERY STRONG chemical smell! if I can smell it, then i know my baby can. it was made almost 2 months prior to me placing my order so in that amount of time, sitting on a shelf, the chicken flavoring had worn off. after contacting the pharmacy dept. about the issue, i was told they could not give a refund because it was still within the date range. im stuck with $40 worth of medicine that is going in the trash. i will still continue to purchase other products from chewy, but not from their pharmacy dept.
Bottle Issues and taste
This review comes after ordering two bottles from Chewy. My cat has had hyperthyroidism for 3 years now. Due to the difficulties giving her the pill, I've been ordering the flavored methimazole liquid from another company but since they raised their prices by $22 in one year, I decided to order from Chewy. The first bottle I received, it was difficult to get the medicine out and administering the medicine to her with the eyedropper it came with. It kept getting stuck. The bottle would often leak when you turn it upside down or shake it up and the cap would increasingly become hard to open. For whatever reason when you push down on the cap to open it, it wouldn't grip on the bottle and eventually the bottle wouldn't open anymore. I thought this was a one off so I ordered a replacement which Chewy was great to send however it took several days to be delivered (so my cat didn't get her medicine for at least 4-5 days) and now I'm having the same problem with this bottle. With some maneuvering and effort, I can get this one open but the eyedroppers are continuously getting stuck making it difficult to shoot it in her mouth. She gets this twice a day, every day so you can understand the frustration. And although, she never liked getting her medicine before, she seems to really hate the taste of this one. So, I'm dropping this feedback in the hopes that there could be some improvements on the bottle manufacturer and/or perhaps making the taste more bearable. Thanks
Not for my cat
Smokey needs to take anti-hyperthyroid medication twice a day and we started with pills. Because he is EXTREMELY finicky, trying to persuade him to take the pills voluntarily, even in pill pockets, was not an option; we had to go through the whole head back - lower jaw down (gently!) - pill popped in - check that it's swallowed (sometimes yes, sometimes no). We were hoping that flavored liquid would be easier, and we got the strongest prescription so there would be the least amount of liquid for Smokey to have to swallow, and decided to try the one flavor (chicken) he might like. And he absolutely HATES it, even more - MUCH more - than taking the pills. The first couple of times we tried the liquid he couldn't get the taste out of his mouth fast enough, thrashing his tail and spitting, and stormed away, not to be seen for the rest of the day. Now that we've gone back to the pills, he's still not happy with the process and complains a bit, but at least now he's willing to be friends again very soon afterwards. (BTW, just to be clear, we did syringe the liquid into his cheek pocket next to his teeth, and as far back as possible to try to avoid the front of his tongue.) I'm sure there are some cats that wouldn't mind this, but my cat absolutely cannot stand it, so I just can't recommend it.
I like that this compounded liquid is available and ready to ship. My cat has been doing great on it for two years. One thing I would change is the bottle size or length of the dropper. With the product only filling half the bottle, the dropper does not fill unless you tilt the bottle and then it makes it difficult to fill the dropper sufficiently.
The chicken flavored smelled gross. I constantly spilled it on myself due to the syringe not working well. My cat hated the flavor. It was harder to give her the liquid form than the pill form of methimazole.
I was buying this from a compounding pharmacy. I lost more medicine dripping out all the time plus it was more expensive! Giving this to Opie is so much easier! Thanks Chewy!
Vet clinic interface needs work
FAX between vet and Chewy problematic. Customer follow-up needed and caused delay. Customer required to make technical decisions about which drug and strength to order, this should be done by the vet initially.
My cat loves this
Was using a methimazole pill, then another liquid from a different pharmacy, but their bottle leaked. Decided to try Chewy and 1. it's cheaper 2. the bottle is great -no leaks, easy to dispense and 3. my cat really loves the taste! I've been able to just mix it in his food (per our vet's instructions) or give it to him straight from the syringe. Definitely sticking with Chewy on this product.
1st time using Chewy
Just time ever ordering on Chewy. The ordering process was easy and fast was FAST! Overall pleased except stubborn old cat doesn’t approve of the flavor of the medicine. We used to use a different compounding pharmacy same flavor of this medicine and she would eat it fine with her food. This one she won’t take willingly. Could just be the cat though just wish she would take it easily like her other medicine.
