What's the difference between early care and advanced care?
Answer by ChewyMay 08, 2018
Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets NF Advanced Care has been specifically formulated to minimize the sign of kidney failure and help slow the progression of the disease. Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets NF Early Care is specially formulated to support feline kidney health.

what does NF MEAN? STAND FOR? KIDNEY FUNCTION CAT FOOD Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets NF Kidney Function
Answer by ChewyApr 17, 2018
The NF stands for Renal Function.

0.18% is the minimum phosphorus! What is the MAX phosphorus of this food? And what is " artificial and natural flavors" in the ingredients list mean? Is that sugar? Don't mean to be a pest! Thank you for your time & consideration!
Answer by ChewyOct 04, 2018
Purina does not test for max phosphorous levels, but states that the total phosphorus in the NF Kidney Function Advanced Care canned formula, which is more accurate than minimums or maximums, is .39% on a dry matter basis. A flavor is any ingredient whose significant function in food is flavoring rather than nutritional. A natural flavor is one that's derived from a plant or animal while an artificial flavor is generated from scratch.

What is the difference between old & new formula?
Answer by ChewyFeb 25, 2022
The biggest difference is actually between the NF Early Care Formulas vs the "old" NF and the NF Advanced Care. With NF Early Care, we found a way to keep the protein higher, while restricting the phosphorus as low as in the Advanced Care. The higher protein helps to support lean muscle during Stages 1-2 renal failure when the cats can tolerate more protein than Stages 3-4.

Not as bad as some of them, but still not so great either :(

Two cats now in renal failure...so distraught! Now we were given this and a few other brands by our vet. They will eat a little of this but still not liking it too much. How are we supposed to feed our cats who are in kidney failure when no one can come up with a food they really like? What a shame there's really nothing to make a kidney cat food really appealing to my cats. We've tried them all...again this is the only one they will pick at but STILL do NOT care for it much either :( I have EVEN TRIED mixing it with their all time favorite regular foods.

Waste of money

My sweet girl is a frail 15+yo who's never been a picky eater. On the first day she ate it. Afterwards, she ate very little of it and now she refuses to eat it at all. The consistency is sticky, paste like. I tried adding a little water. It just made into grainy goop. I even tried warming it up. Still a no go.

No one will eat it

None of the rescues in stage 3 and stage 4 kidney failure will eat this. These are cats who used to survive outdoors by eating garbage, rodents, and dead birds. Tried mixing in fishy canned food, but they are too smart for that. At this cost, could not buy another tray of cans if it will not nourish them. Also strongly believe in quality of life and making the final months, weeks, days torture free. Switched brands and give fluids, liquid and dry supplements instead.

My cat is eating this pretty well

I mix another canned food with this and my cat wolf's it down. She's not as keen on this product alone. Also the product is a little "rubbery".I have to smoosh it down so she is able to eat it well. This is the best food for my cat's advanced kidney issues so I'm glad I can make it work!

Well done

I was crossing my fingers that my picky cat would like this because he is in kidney failure and we want him to stay with us as long as possible and the good news is he absolutely loves this food

Kidney Diet Food

My Smokey has tried all the kidney prescription foods, and Purina Pro Plan Kidney Function food is the only one he will eat! Finally a food he will eat!

Better Choice

Started my cat on another prescription wet food for his kidney issues - he stopped eating it so switched to Purina NF - it’s working well and he’s not showing any signs of disliking it - a relief - his energy level and overall health has been better on this product!

My cat doesn’t like it.

Even though I am mixing it with her old food, she has been very reluctant to eat this food. And she is not usually a picky eater.

My cat doesn’t like it

I have an elderly shelter cat who was just diagnosed with kidney failure. This cat loves food, especially wet food (but not so much kibble). I was pretty surprised when he has refused to eat this canned wet food. I’m unsure what he’s not liking about it but he is not interested.

Low Moisture, Cats Won’t Eat It

This renal cat food doesn’t have a lot of moisture and my two cats who have stage 1-2 kidney disease do not like it at all. They’ll eat it as a last resort. It also is a pretty dry pate formula. I do not recommend.
