About Modesto Milling

Modesto Milling was established in 1974 as a dairymen’s co-op. In 1997, a group of local dairymen convinced the Board of Directors to start manufacturing organic dairy grain mixes. By January 1998, Modesto Milling gained its organic certification from Oregon Tilth of Salem, Ore. They became the first organic grain processor in Central California, and ever since, Modesto Milling has been manufacturing high quality organic feed for many different types of livestock.

Our hens eat ALL this feed! They had previously kicked pellets out of feeder of all previous brands used. One older hen often had droppings that were too soft. I took her to the avian veterinarian who examined her, tested her droppings and there no parasites and she was in good health. After just a week of eating Modesto feed her droppings have been perfect everyday! No more wasted feed and our feathered ladies look and feel great. Worth the cost!

i’ve been ordering this for a year now. It’s quality as far as pellets go. the hens like it and lay healthy strong eggs…. switched from another, at the time more expensive brand because the price was fair. however, it just took a giant leap and the price has suddenly increased by over 15.00!!! looking into other options now.

Great food but it doesn't ship well

It's a very good food. The chickens love it. The only problem is that the 50 pound bags don't ship well. They're just too heavy for cardboard boxes, and the box and bags split during shipping. I had the same problem with heavy bags of kitty litter ordered from Chewy, so I always order smaller bags. Unfortunately, this brand of chicken feed isn't available in smaller bags. On top of this, even if it ships okay (unlikely), it's incredibly heavy to carry from the front porch to the backyard. Bottom line - the food is great, but it just doesn't ship well.

Our chickens make a complete mess throwing this feed around their pen. They will not eat it happily. Their feathers are starting to look sad and their coloring is off. Egg production is low to hardly anything. Switching and not looking back.
