Can a dog get out of the gate by pushing it open on his own?

To open the gate you will need to press the latch button downwards with your thumb while simultaneously lifting the latch spindle out of the cup and rotating the gate open. When closing the gate, ensure that the upper and lower latch spindles are seated in their respective cups. The upper latch release button prevents the gate from being opened unintentionally.

Can this product be used in an opening with baseboard trim?

The gate mounts need to be flush with each other so we wouldn't recommend using on the baseboard trim but just higher than it.

This gate does not require a drill. However, it does need a screwdriver to help with installing the gate.

Well, he got out again! My little Shorkey is definitely practicing for the Olympics. Before I knew it he was in the neighborhood next door and I was frantic. I obviously purchased this gate as a crime deterrent, and it works extremely well. I had it installed in just a few minutes, a drill, tape and a phillips screwdriver was all it took. I can open it with one hand. It installed just inches from the ground. I am more than pleased.

Great pet gate without the bottom bar

Easy to install a little higher to avoid tall baseboards. And increase the height for the dog.

I've had this gate on my stairs for several years. Sturdy and classy looking. I bought a second one for the mudroom doorway. I know it will last and always look

I've had this gate on my stairs for several years. Sturdy and classy looking. I bought a second one for the mudroom doorway. I know it will last and always look nice. I particularly like that it is attached to the door frame so no fussing with the fit or anything across the floor to catch a toe on.
