Why do the directions say to soak the oats for 45 minutes before feeding?

Answer by Chewy • Jan 02, 2026
The soaking process is called fermentation. This method expands the feed, making it more digestible for animals. It also gives the oats a milder taste, which some animals prefer. While not all customers ferment their oats, we recommend a minimum of 45 minutes to allow the fermentation process to occur.

Good Quality and Value

Nice quality product and price. Got for my goose during the winter, she's fussy though and often picks through it to get to the duck feed. If I only give the oats to her she won't eat it (same with wheat). She prefers grass but unfortunately for her it's winter in Vermont. She does eat if mixed to her standard (fussy goose). Ducks don't seem to mind it.

Expensive

Nothing special, nice organic oats, but cost is about double. Some amount more is understandable, but this seems like too much.
