We were previously using the Dasaquin chew tabs (w/o MSM) for my elderly dogs with osteosarthritis. They gobbled them up for years with no problem and they seemed to help their joints. Then about a year or more ago after I opened a new bottle, it was a hard no. Something must've changed about the taste. After a year of fighting it (slathering in PB, bribing with other treats, etc), thought I'd give these a try. I never did from the start bc they had BHA or something like that. But I don't see that listed anymore. These chews are BIG. And they aren't soft enough to just chew down. I have to tear them in half so that my big 95 lb dog can eat it. Unfortunately there is something in these that give him really bad gas though. I stopped giving and the gas went away. Started giving again and it's back. On the search for a non-Nutramax brand now. I had the same experience with their Denamarin chew tabs too. Initially took them no prob, but stopped taking both at about the same time. So must be something they are using now in their chew tabs :(
I bought a small bag to try them out and see if I like them. Unfortunately like many people have mentioned in other reviews, they dry out very quickly. I opened the bag and by the second day the chews were super stiff. I would buy again but use it as a preventative. I do AKC rally and FCAT and I want to make sure my dogs joints stay nice and lubricated. I can’t imagine giving these to a senior dog, I would have to break these in half or into smaller pieces. My dog is 5yr old rottie gsp mix lean 85lbs, he eats these in 2 bites and is not a picky eater. Can’t speak on joint differences since I’m using this as a preventative but me personally I would look for a powder supplement when my dog starts to get old.
Our 13.5 year old Boxador was showing signs of arthritis. She has been active her whole life, but has slowed down significantly in the past six months. It had gotten to the point where she sometimes had trouble standing up and tired easily. After two weeks of Dasuquin, she had a dramatic improvement in mobility and pain levels. She can once again jump on the furniture, move without stiffness, and go on walks without wanting to stop after a few minutes. She seems so much peppier now. I’m amazed at how much Dasuquin has helped our old girl.
I have a 6-year-old husky that has been limping after every park visit, he gets to the point where he can't get up if he lays down too long at home. I got nutramax in hopes that we can get him walking regularly again. It's only been 4 weeks but I haven't seen any improvement yet. Really disappointed because the price of this is not something that's affordable for the average consumer.
These did seem to help our dogs, but upon further reading, I noticed they are made with avocado / soybean unsaponifiables (ASU) powder. When I inquired about whether the soybean source is confirmed as Non-GMO, I was advised that: “Nutramax has recently informed us that as a company they make no claims in regards to GMO in any of their products.” Therefore, we will be discontinuing use of this product. Scary to think I’ve been feeding our dogs a product sourced from GMO soybeans!
Our 9 year old Siberian Husky began showing signs of arthritis in his hips several months ago. He was mostly lethargic with little appetite and would whimper when we tried to get him to sit. We decided to try Dasuquin Soft Chews. Within 3 days he was eating normally, and running around the yard with our other dog. Absolutely 5 Stars! Very pleased with results!
My 4 year old Great Dane takes these readily. I typically just put one in with her food each meal because that's easier for me but trust me if there's anything foreign she doesn't want it would be left when all the food was eaten. If I forget to add it and offer it as a treat she will eat it so I know she likes them.
Our seven year old 125 pound German Shepherd-St. Bernard mix Wally has been taking a daily Dasuquin dose since he was one year old. He is a very active dog and I am convinced the Dasuquin has played a major role in keeping Wally happy and pain free. It is a vital joint supplement for dogs.
my vet recommended this for us to use to our dog that could possibly get arthritis in the future. my dog grew extremely fast and now we are dealing with some consequences of that. so far this product is amazing and I have noticed it helping her on a daily basis we started giving it to our other dog as a preventative measure and both dogs love the flavor of these so its easy to give as soon as they hear the bag open they run and sit to wait for this "treat" I will keep this in their diet for their entire lives because its amazing to see a change in the one who is struggling and it will be a great preventative measure for the other baby we have.
I just purchased the 2nd bag of these soft chews for my Golden Retriever. I am about 3/4 of the way through the first bag and unfortunately am going to have discontinue using it. He has developed diarrhea which I understood was a possibility and after cutting him down to 1 chew a day and then quitting completely....the diarrhea is clearing up. So the lesson learned is, don't buy the 2nd bag until you know for sure that your dog is going to tolerate it!!!! Now I have an unopened bag looking for a new home!!!! That being said....Laddie loved the chews....ate them eagerly and I do think they were helpful with his joints. Wish he had been able to tolerate them!!!!
