My 3 horses ranging from 22 to 3 are forage fed, so they get pasture + free choice hay most of the time. They are on an anti inflammatory diet typically as I’ve found not only does it make the most sense for my horses, it’s keeping their diet as close to the way nature intended it. I couldn’t get my usual vitamin / mineral so I needed something easy and quick. I don’t particularly like all the ingredients in this as they’re inflammatory but I will say it is keeping my horses looking their best over all. My horses have no problem eating this either which makes everything easier. 4 stars due to higher inflammatory ingredients.

My hope for this product was to simplify feeding - I always have a salt block available, and add mineral supplements to grain. I thought I could offer this free

My hope for this product was to simplify feeding - I always have a salt block available, and add mineral supplements to grain. I thought I could offer this free choice as an alternative (the recommended feeding methods are either free choice or as a top dressing). The difficulty is feeding it in a way that isn't messy and wasteful! I'd say my guys have wasted 80% of what they've had on offer by playing with it, spilling it, or contaminating it. I have tried putting it in various buckets etc but I think the only way to not make a mess is to try and compact it into a block... Or just buy a block in the first place. As a top dressing I'm sure this would work great! They seem to like the taste, it's less dusty than most mineral supplements, and seems to be decent quality.

Just what the Vet ordered!!! I am so super pleased with this product, Nutrena EquiMin Granules. As a resident of N. FL, I only wish I had discovered EquiMin before the summer began!! I have two horses and one of them is a mineral block junkie. He's a very wise, 21 yr. old, 16h Mustang, with excessive draft DNA, who knows, instinctively, exactly what he needs, and is clear at expressing it. Both of my horses get a daily OTC Electrolyte Supplement with their small amount of Balancer Pellets. They are on good pasture, in season, and top quality hay year round. They also have 24/7 access to red Mineral [not salt] blocks. However, as you will see in my pictures, my mustang not only bites off chunks of the block, but also tries to "eat" the residual Electrolyte Supplement off the bottom of his green feed bucket [as shown in my attached pictures]. My horses and I all love this product. I'm feedng 1 oz in AM and 1 oz in PM as directed on the label for pleasure/moderate working horses. I notice that they are spending less time at the block licking, licking, licking and sometimes biting off chunks of it to chew and swallow. I could not find the 1 oz. scoop in the bag, but I'm assuming it's in there....somewhere. So, I'm using a 1 oz. scoop from the electrolytes that I'm no longer feeding. I will keep them on these minerals, year round, to make sure they are getting what they need through the cold months when the pasture grass is dead. [YES, we DO freeze in North FL]. Thanks Nutrena. Great Product.

Several of my equines (which include donkey, horses, and mules) are on forage-only diets much or most of the time, depending on the season and their work and condition levels. This is the ideal supplement for those animals: Formulated as a top-dress supplement I can easily scatter on top of their hay, and providing salt, minerals, and more. It looks like a loose salt, but includes vitamins such as vitamin E and vitamin B-12. It contains wheat middlings (wheat mids), which I have long fed as a supplemental feed, and probiotics (lactobacillus, enterococcus, bifidobacterium, etc.) that I believe are so essential for their gut health. For those of us who give feed products the "sniff test" as soon as we open them, this one gets an A for appealing scent. It looks and smells clean, free of dust and mold, and being non-caking, I expect mold is not going to be an issue. I particularly like it as a loose salt source, since my mules are masters of salt-block destruction and seem to pride themselves on busting even the 50-lb. blocks apart. I recommend this supplement without hesitation.

Mares Unanimously Vetoed the Supplement

I have 3 mares with one of them being particular about her food if supplements are added. With this being said, I was expecting her to not touch her food. She

I have 3 mares with one of them being particular about her food if supplements are added. With this being said, I was expecting her to not touch her food. She did eat some of her grain, but once she reached the supplement she left the remaining grain in her bin. My other 2 mares are not finnicky, however they both also left grain in their bins which was covered with the supplement. I was very surprised! These two went back to their bins and smelled the grain and walked away a second time. I was actually optimistic that the supplement would go over well with them because I smelled the bag and it had a pleasant hint of fruit and grain. The texture of the supplement is slightly coarse and did blend in with the grain evenly. I did not offer the recommended amount since this was our first introduction of this product. I also was optimistic about the supplement because Nutrena has a wide range of foods to offer for other animals aside from horses. Nutrena has a good reputation, so this experience will not deter us from trying other Nutrena products.

Easy addition if your horse will eat it.

Two of my three easily eat this as a top dressing on their small bit of supplemental grain. It smells nice, no overpowering odor like some I have tried in the past

Two of my three easily eat this as a top dressing on their small bit of supplemental grain. It smells nice, no overpowering odor like some I have tried in the past. A great compliment to daily pasturing. The only downside I see is for horses who do not take to it. It’s not easy to stay consistent with their mineral needs if they don't ingest it as dosed out. And I hope other packaging comes with a clearer description tag than mine. I had to get online to see the quantities because the tag secured to my bag was printed or cut off and I could not read it. Purely a manufacturing error, not reflective of the product quality, but an issue none the less.

I got this to supplement my donkeys diets. I have 3 obese donkeys that the vet suggested be kept off of the grass until they lose some weight. I am giving them a small amount of oats and hay. I put this in a bowl for them but they didn’t seem interested in it so I have been adding a tiny bit to their oats and they eat it up. It will take a lot of time for them to slim down but at least I feel like they are getting the nutrients they need.
