Is orijen original good for diabetic dogs
Answer by QueenieTriciaApr 07, 2023
I gave Orijen Senior to my diabetic Pom who was then 11 at time of diagnosis. I called Origin and spoke with their Nutritionist for verification. He had been on Orijen his entire life through the life stages. He was fed every 12 hours and lived until he was 16. I highly recommend.

What is the max % of Calcium and Phosphorus content of ORIJEN Original?

Are any of the ingredients in any of your dry dog foods sourced from China?
Answer by ChewyFeb 18, 2021
ORIJEN focus when sourcing ingredients has always been on using ingredients from suppliers they know and trust. Part of this commitment is choosing suppliers with the technical expertise and discipline to give us the best ingredients available. While they do not source ingredients directly from China, some of their B vitamins are made with raw materials that originate in China. This would apply to vitamins B1 and B6, and is consistent throughout the pet food industry. They require that any vitamin components sourced from China must be human grade, and as such they undergo intensive testing to ensure the purity of the ingredient and accuracy of the blend.

Be careful causes weight gain

I heard so many good things about this dog food. My dogs gained so much weight in 3 weeks on this food. It is on the expensive side. My dog was stater diabetic so needs alot of fiber and this was recommended for protein as well but my daushaunds gained so much. I am switching back to my original dog food halo turkey and sweet potato I would not recommend for small dogs. I have 5 do I'd snd they gained more than 6 lbs in a hort amount of time I can barely pick them up now would not recommend.

So Glad I Switched.

My dog, Daisy, has made such great improvements of her overall health, digestion and coat since switching to this food only two weeks ago. Her breath isn’t foul, okay, maybe a little fishy seeing as we switched to 6 Fish Orijen, but it doesn’t have that sickly sweet smell. Most of the time, Daisy does not finish her food now since it is so rich in nutrients, (I only give her a cup in the morning, and one cup at night). She doesn’t chew on grass, or crave concerning amounts of water. Her coat is significantly softer. Her bowel movements are consistent or crumbly dry. Sure, this food is very expensive, but this is what works for our dog and seeing as she doesn’t eat as much as she did with her other food, therefore lasting longer, I say it’s well worth the price tag, and will likely be sticking to this brand going forward.

This food has changed!

For years, my dogs have been happily eating Orijen food and absolutely loved it. However, on our most recent purchase, something seemed off. My dogs refused to eat the new bag, and we suspected there might have been a formula change. Hoping it would resolve itself, we gave it a few days, but unfortunately, their refusal to eat continued. To our dismay, after a few days, all three of my dogs developed a severe reaction. They were constantly itching themselves and experienced numerous skin issues. We thoroughly checked for ticks, fleas, and any other possible causes, but found nothing out of the ordinary. So, we decided to immediately switch back to the old but gold, Kirkland dog food. Miraculously, their itching reduced significantly, and they resumed eating their meals normally. After some research, we discovered that Orijen had been acquired by a major corporation. Given the recent issues and our dogs' reactions, we have made the decision not to purchase Orijen food anymore. Although Orijen was once beloved by my dogs, the recent changes and adverse reactions have led us to switch to a different brand. So, pet pawrents, be aware!

Too rich for my pups!

Switched to this brand because of one of my dog’s allergies. I slowly transitioned both my doodles for weeks with a 25 lb bag. I ordered another 25 bag and then started feeding them 100% Origen. Once I got to the new bag both dogs immediately got diarrhea and then loose stools. I tried to a let it run it’s course but after 5 days but I’m over it. I’m tossing this bag and going back to my old brand. It’s clearly too rich for doodles. Just odd they had no issues with the 1st bag.

Great Food

I rescue dogs and have 10 fosters. The majority of them just love Orejin Original. I tried other flavors and sizes but this is the big winner. I even grind it up for my two tiny ones who have deformed mouths but love the Orijen. I asked why they didn’t like the small bites and sure enough, different recipe. I’ve tried everything and this is it for us.

it's dog food.

we all know what it's going to turn into,... doesn't seem to work for all dogs, but has been our Go-To food for years for our Dutchies. was a good deal with a special code that was shared with us. otherwise is generally about the same price at Chewy as what be find it for locally, but conveniently delivered to our front door. now, if they would only take it away as conveniently when our dog was done with it,...

Best dry food for my babies

I try to feed my pups well. Dry food works best for us but I still want it to be healthy. After reviewing independent analysis of different brands of food, I switched from my old brand to Original Orijen. This food does contain grains as well as taurine so I don't have to worry about their little hearts being damaged. There's a lot of good stuff in this food. It's very high protein and contains zero questionable ingredients. No propylene glycol (often used to keep moisture out of dry dog food but has a very similar chemical make up as antifreeze; which is toxic to dogs). No other chemicals that are harmful to dogs but somehow allowed to be in their food. It's pricey. But it's worth it to me to know I'm not killing my dogs with the food I give them. Because thet don't have a choice. They can only eat what I give them.

Warning

I fed my puppy Origen from the very beginning. I was convinced I was giving him the best kibble on the market. Boy was I wrong! As a puppy he would occasionally vomit bile in the middle of the night. I attributed it to an empty stomach. At 2, gradually his hip bones and ribs started protruding.I was feeding him according to guidelines and even gave him a little extra, but he was looking emaciated as time went on . The vet confirmed it was muscle wasting and his kidneys were in early failure. I switched to another food and he quickly regained weight and his labs returned to normal. There is no doubt if I kept him on Origen he wouldn’t be here. Don’t be fooled by the price, ingredients, attractive packaging. I will upload before and after of my pup.

Switching brands

I’ve had my dog on Orijen for over a year. The most recent bag has a strong smell and he won’t go near it. This with some recent negative reviews I’ve seen make me uncomfortable continuing to give him this and I ended up throwing the whole bag away.
