We just received a new bag of Orijen Senior. A couple days later my senior developed diarrhea. She was immediately put on just boiled chicken and rice and got an Rx from the vet (600.00 for tests, blood work and Rx). Once the diarrhea cleared up we SLOWLY started adding a little Orijen to her chicken and rice. After just 2 days the diarrhea was back. The Canadian company, Champion Petfoods (Orijen and Acana) was recently bought out by US based Mars Petcare. They have since changed the recipe and I can’t help but think these changes were profit driven without any thought to the wellness of our pets.
First off let me state emphatically that the ingredients in this food are great. Nothing at all wrong with this food. That said my dog would not eat it and simply pushed it away starring at it. Sorry. I tried to incorporate a healthy food choice but this was not the one.
I have a 9-year-old golden retriever who usually wants to eat everything except this food! I can tell her stomach has not been feeling well recently. I know Orijen is a good brand, and I wanted to feed her the best kibble, but it gives her horrible gas and soft stools. She is now refusing to eat it, which is insane to watch (if you have a golden retriever, you know how weird it is to see them reject food). Not to mention, the food genuinely smells terrible. It is really fishy! I am curious to know how many people haven't commented on this. I would advise staying away from this formula if your doggie has a sensitive stomach or is allergy prone.
The 8-year-old and 14-year-old puppies had diarrhea all night, continued to drink water, pooped and urinated throughout the days, and continued dozens of times for two days... never like this.
We switched from Eukanuba to Orijen and we couldn’t be happier. While it’s a bit more expensive, I’m happy to pay for real ingredients (just look at the ingredients versus other brands). My 10yr old lab mix loves it and we only want what’s best for her. I rehydrate it and mix in probiotics and her daily vitamins and she loves it.
Fed my dogs Orijen senior for years. Loved it and so did my dogs. I’m in awe how chewy responsed to the news my sweet dog had passed. One week later I received a Beautiful card and nice stone with his name and a plaque with a paw print and “forever in my heart”. So meaningful. Once I’m ready for a new round of dogs, chewy definitely has my business. Thank you.
We have 2 dogs over 10 years old and they were not only becoming picky eaters but also having issues such as throwing up their food sometimes. This food solved all those issues and they love it! Thank you
according to my dog. Transitioning her to senior food is easy when you can find a food they like.
Our dog Bruno is a fussy eater. We always need to coax him into eating. He is a senior boy with a few medical issues and food allergies. Orijen Senior grain-free was recommended to us at our local pet store (sorry Chewy!), so I bought a bag to try it out. Well, our fussy eater went crazy for this food. I was shocked. We are now in the process of transitioning him to Orijen. As a matter of fact, the bag of food was sitting on the floor and he chewed a hole through the bag to get to the food. He has never done this for any of the other foods we tried. We are hopeful he will continue to enjoy this food and reap the benefits of the nutritional ingredients. Oh, the bag didn’t open nicely so I had to clip it closed — there’s got to be a better way for opening/closing the bag.
I’ve known about Orijen for a long time, but it’s one of brands I passed on due to cost. My 12 year old 78 lb mix has been on a variety of foods from Buffalo Blue Wilderness and Wellness Core since 3 months old. And I highly recommend both brands. For the past 1.5 years he was on Wellness Core Digestive Health. It seemed to help his sensitive stomach and gastric issues. He did well and liked, but for the past couple months for some reason he won’t touch it. He will eat anything else I add to his bowl, but finds the Wellness kibbles and spits them out. I don’t know if they changed the formula or what happened! So I decided to give Orijen Senior a try. I first purchased the smallest bag just to try. He loved it! So I decided to start the transition and it was easy, no issues. Poops are great, happy, energetic, His joint issues are even doing well. (He is also on Cosequin for joint and Denamarin for liver) I am pleased and will continue with Orijen for now. He has Cushings and I want him to live out his remaining years happy and with the best.
