Nourish As Nature Intended

Fresh ingredients preserved solely through refrigeration and raw ingredients frozen at the peak of freshness stay true to their form. This minimalist approach preserves important nutrients and keeps closer to the diet your canine evolved to eat.

The first 5 ingredients are always fresh or raw animal sources, including nutrient-rich meat, poultry, whole fish, and organs.

ORIJEN recipes include meat, organs, and bone, so your dog can enjoy the most nutrient-dense and succulent parts of the prey.

With at least 15 fresh or raw ingredients in every recipe, ORIJEN kibble is the closest thing to feeding a raw diet.

Transitioning to ORIJEN

Acclimate your dog to a new ORIJEN diet by transitioning gradually from the old food you were feeding. Start by replacing 25% of the old diet with ORIJEN food, increasing the new food amount proportionally over the next 10-14 days. By the end of the second week, you should be feeding 100% ORIJEN.

ORIJEN makes foods to help pets thrive, so they can stay healthy and strong through all their days. Their Wholeprey approach means including the most nutrient-dense and delicious parts of the prey in their recipes, to deliver the complete nutrition cats and dogs evolved to eat. Help your best friend reach his fullest potential with a biologically appropriate diet from ORIJEN.

Do any of the ingredients come from China?
Answer by ChewyMar 27, 2021
This recipe is made in the USA. ORIJEN's focus when sourcing ingredients has always been on using ingredients from suppliers they know and trust. Part of this commitment is choosing suppliers with the technical expertise and discipline to give the best ingredients available. While they do not source ingredients directly from China, some of their B vitamins are made with raw materials that originate in China. This would apply to vitamins B1 and B6, and is consistent throughout the pet food industry. They require that any vitamin components sourced from China must be human grade, and as such they undergo intensive testing to ensure the purity of the ingredient and accuracy of the blend.

How long does the product stay fresh after the bag has been opened? I would like to order the 13-lb bag, but my pup might only eat 1/2 cup per day, according to the feeding instructions. At that rate, how much of the bag will she be able to finish off before the food's freshness expires?
Answer by ChewyJul 04, 2017
We guarantee an expiration date at least 3-6 months from the date of any dry food purchase. Orijen's air evacuation process ensures it's very fresh before it's opened and their bags are fold-downable so that you can simply roll it to keep it fresh for several months. If stored in a cool dry place, preferably in an airtight container in the original packaging, it can last up until the expiration.

Incredible Product

I am SUPER picky with pet food so I was skeptical of the claims of this food. I can assure you that this is a high quality and nutritionally dense food! I have a rescue rottie and two Shiba Inus who are all super picky with food and will just not eat if they don't like the food enough; they have been enthusiastic about this food! My rottie was losing weight from not wanting to eat the other healthy foods I tried but he (and my other pups) have gained healthy weight and their eyes, coat, and teeth looks brighter and more beautiful than ever! They have had way more energy and even seem more social and mentally sound with this food (it sounds crazy but it works the same for people; good food means a sound mind and body). I feed Wysong Uncanny as a wet food supplement and they are in heaven and happier than ever! Try it, you won't regret!

kitty still loves

My kitty has chicken and pea allergies so it has been very difficult to find food, or food she would like.I finally threw in the towel when she was stealing mine or the dogs food. Then I found this amazing company. She actually enjoys her food and I have been able to cut back on buying wet food. This formula has also helped her skin greatly. My old gal is the more energetic and healthy than I’ve seen her in years. Thank you for giving her a new life

Makes my dogs very gassy

I bought this food because of its reviews and the ingredients are what I feed them homecooked. This food has caused both of my dogs to have the worst gas ever! Like clear a room gas and it lasts all day long. Also stools frequency has quadrupled. Boo!

Just OK - Not Great

I bought this with high hopes that it would be a great food for my Sharpei, who has chronic allergies - skin, yeasty ears & diarrhea prone and my Pittie who has a sensitive digestive tract. My Sharpei is on Apoquel (but still has bouts of extreme itchiness if her food isn’t right) and on a daily probiotic that helps with diarrhea. It seems as if my Sharpei is less itchy. However, neither of my girls are crazy about this food. They are very lackluster about it being in their bowls. I put a topper on it and that doesn’t help much. They eat the topper, leaving the dry kibble in their bowls. I can’t justify spending over $100 on a bag of food every 3-4 weeks that the girls barely tolerate. I’ll be switching to something else toward the end of this bag.

Fishy Goodness

We had our boy Tuuka a 9yr old, 95 lb OEB on a grain free chicken free diet for a long time which did improve some of his skin conditions but he started having a variety of health issues and wanted to put him on the best food we could find. This product has not disappointed and his coat is the best it has looked with very normal/healthy bowel movements. The kibbles look and smell like a quality food.

Love the food but...

We've been using this brand for almost a year. It checks a lot of boxes for me, including being chicken free and carrageenan free. Not to mention, our dogs absolutely love this food, even our pickiest eater. Lately our dogs, especially our big ones, have lost the luster in their coats, have dry skin and when they scratch their hair comes out in little clumps. It's winter, I take that into account - but this is a food derived from fish. Their coats were always great until recently. Wasn't sure if anyone else was having this issue with the food over long term use.

Orijen six fish

My dog was recently diagnosed with mast cell cancer, and this food was recommended. I'm really hoping it helps. I added a small amount to her old food and she ate it and spit out the old food. I hope it works okay on her sensitive stomach. My only issue is the peas, pea starch, lentils and chickpeas. At least they're farther down on the list. It just seems like an unnecessary excessive amount. We love Chewy and the customer service is the absolute best!

Good, but...

Our 5 yo lab/boxer mutt is a definite fan of this food, and thankfully so is his sensitive stomach. It took him a few weeks to get used to it, but he was having such a bad reaction to his previous food that it could have been that as well. The only two downsides to this are the fishy burps and breath... and the price. Otherwise, it's definitely a winner!

Great Food but made my dogs very Farty!!!

This food is probably one of the best food you could possibly buy for your fur babies. Coats very nice and shiny, more energy, firm stool. But unfortunately it made my dogs so farty. They would stink up the whole room. It was pretty bad! This has been happening only when I switch to Orijen. And I waited a couple of month just to make sure that is wasn’t the adjustment with the new food. I also red some other reviews like mine.

Ingredient splitting - legumes

I'm a bit annoyed to notice that this food has both green and red lentils and lentil fiber. I read that dog food companies can split ingredients up like this to make them weigh less overall so they don't appear higher up on the ingredients list. I don't want sneaky ingredient lists when I'm just trying to budget healthy dog food. This ingredient list trickery ridiculousness shouldn't even be allowed. This also has whole peas and pea starch among other beans. Is this 6 fish or maybe 6 bean? My dog seems to be doing ok on the food but I don't know. I hate feeling like a fool like I did after reading about "ingredient splitting" and then reviewing this product and seeing that I did fall prey to thinking it was a great product due to the first several ingredients based on overall weight except oh nooo apparently that's not true... Anyway... If it were a cheaper food maybe I wouldn't be so irritated by it.
