how many are in each package

Answer by ChewyMay 02, 2019
Each package comes with 6 stacks inside.

is this 1st cut?

Answer by ChewyJan 04, 2022
Oxbow uses the same hay that comes in the bags/boxes of our Western Timothy Hay. Every part of the hay plant (stem, leaf, seed head) provides valuable nutrition to your pet. At Oxbow, they strive to produce hay that includes a good balance of each. Depending on where hay is in its growth cycle, you will generally see some differences in the balance of these physical components. First cutting hay is typically stemmier with larger seed heads; second cutting is more likely to be leafier/softer with more brown leaf and smaller seed heads. Rather than market/sell hay by cutting, they strive to harvest all Oxbow hay early in its growth cycle – when specific product attributes are most likely to meet the needs and preferences of most small herbivores. In reality, there are times when Mother Nature does not fully cooperate; factors such as rain, wind, temperature, and humidity can all delay the timing of a harvest.

how big is each disk? how wide is each one?

Answer by ChewyDec 01, 2017
Each disk is 4 inches wide and about 1.5 inches tall.

How long do these typically last for 2 Guinea pigs? How many should I expect to need each week?

Answer by ChewyNov 20, 2022
If your using this as the sole source of hay for a 2 pound pet this will last approximately 18 days, for a 5 pound pet this will last approximately 7 days and for a 7 pound pet this will last approximately 5 days.

The convenience of the compressed stacks.

It's the first hay product that my bunny will eat. I have tried so many only to have to throw them away because he wouldn't eat them.

Our guinea pigs like this product. Their favorite part is the small vertical row of carrots that are on the side of the stacks that you see in the photo. They always love eating the freeze dried carrots and that part goes very quickly. Then it will take a few days to a week to finish the rest. I do only wish that they had the carrots in more than one skinny row on the stack (even two rows on opposite sides of the stack would be great - one for each guinea pig). The rest of the stack is just hay - which is totally fine, but the draw is supposed to be the carrots, and I just don't feel like they include enough to have this be a five star product.

I like these better than the bags because it’s a lot less mess and waste. Our chin still makes a mess as she eats up the stack, but the size of the hay she leaves behind is smaller and easier to clean up. The stacks take about a week for her to finish up and I don’t need to keep adding hay to her cage like I used to.

Rabbit hates it

It mist be because it’s Western Timothy hay? I don’t understand why my rabbit hates it. She won’t eat it, instead she pulls the whole thing apart and the whole stack is in a huge pile under her cage. I bought two boxes and can’t use them now. She eats regular Timothy hay no problem. I liked how compact it was because it doesn’t take up room. I won’t be able to buy these again.
