It’s okay, but needs some improvements

The cage arrived last night. I really wanted to be able to give it 4 or 5 stars, but unfortunately, I can’t. I will share the positives and the negatives. Positives: 1. The cages are each nice and large for my 2 parakeets. I cage them separately, but they like each other and want to be near one another where they can see each other and chatter. When they are out of their cages, they hang together. (You could easily fit 2 small birds in each side, possibly, maybe, 3. I like my little ones to have a lot of room.) 2. The price was very affordable. I was researching the same size double cage from another very well known company that was over twice the price. I read many reviews on the internet on both cages and they were very similar. I chose to risk the cheaper priced cage. 3. My husband found the assembly easy. The instructions are just a picture, screw numbers, and component numbers. To be fair, he has assembled many cages for me over the years. It took him just under 2 hours for the construction (this doesn’t include the time it took after it was put together and issues were noticed. That was probably an additional 45 minutes). 4. The front doors are nice and large, so it makes it easy to put in toys, additional perches, food bowls, etc. 5. The locks on the front doors are secure, so they are definitely harder for a small bird to escape from. 6. The plastic pull out pans are a good quality plastic. 7. There were no missing parts and no cage bars were broken or bent. (That was a relief.) 8. I think the cage is attractive and I like the storage space underneath. This cage has no seed catchers, but I am not a fan of them anyway, and never install them on any of my cages. Now for the negatives: 1. One of the dowels was broken in half upon arrival. The cage has no protection around it in the box, so I was surprised there was no other damage since my box had a large rip in it. It was extremely poor packaging. 2. This one is a big one for me. The food bowl areas just push right up and fall right back down. There’s nothing that secures them. There is usually a little bump out that holds the doors either up or down. This is very dangerous, as a bird can just push them up and could at the very least, escape, or worse, possibly get injured. I would imagine the bowls could just fall out or be pushed out by a bird, as well. I wasn’t planning on using them anyway, so we zip tied them all shut (you will see that we used MANY zip ties on this cage). We used our own bowls and attached them to the cage bars. Unless PawHut fixes this issue, I would definitely not recommend using these and securing them shut. 3. One of the cages is warped (the other one was fine). Due to this, the one cage wobbled on the stand. My husband zip tied both cages to the stand, the front, sides, and back. It worked well. 4. The cage bars are very thin, which I expected. That’s not unusual with cages I have purchased in the past for my small birds. You have to be very careful when attaching things to the bars or cleaning the cage so they don’t bend or break. 5. One of the legs on the stand looks like it’s slightly bent towards the back. It’s not perfectly straight up/down like the others. Even with the cage zip tied securely to the stand all the way around, I won’t be moving it much. The cage is very long, so I would imagine that even if I had gotten the more expensive cage, I probably wouldn’t be comfortable moving that one around much, either. 6. The bottom grates would either not pull out or would leave a large gap in the back when they were pushed back in. My husband used some type of tool (I am not handy) and kept adjusting the track very gently, over and over, until they pulled out easier and when pushed back in, the large gap was gone. 7. The divider was very wobbly when it was slid in. My parakeets like to hang on the divider and chat with each other. We zip tied the top front and back of the divider through the small holes that are on the cage in that area. It worked great. 8. The dowels are extremely thin and poor quality. They can easily snap in half. The parakeets will be fine with them, but when I clean them, I am concerned they could break. I may replace them in the near future, but am also adding more comfortable and more bird friendly perches, so they may be taken out and not replaced. I am still waiting for most of the perches to arrive. I will put more toys in once I have the new perches in. If you aren’t going to use the divider, you will have to come up with a fix for the large spacing on the front, back, top, and bottom where the divider slides in. It’s about an inch wide and a small bird could get hurt, or worse. We don’t plan on removing our divider, but my husband said he wasn’t worried about it if we ever did. He said there are several things he could do to safely close up the gap areas. (It helps to have someone handy around.) All in all, I am not sorry that I purchased this cage. For the price, I didn’t expect perfection. I just can’t give it above 3 stars due to the issues we encountered after construction. If you do choose to purchase this cage, you may want to have a lot of zip ties on hand. This cage is definitely for small birds ONLY. A medium or large bird will bite right through the bars and snap them. This is a flight cage for SMALL birds only.

Very nicely made item. Rolls well and everything is as described. Lots of storage space under the cage itself. Now, if you are not handy or have an assistant you may have problems with assembly. It is not difficult but requires some knowledge of knockdown assembly items. If you use this as a single 65" cage the gap between the 2 cage sessions may cause a problem for small birds.
