Can you program this so that multiple cats can eat from one unit?

Answer by JessicaJan 20, 2026
Not really. It only pairs with a single RFID. It does have a mode that leaves it open all the time. It does NOT have a mode that closes when a particular RFID approaches.

Does the RFID tag have to be facing up, in order to be read by the feeder?

Answer by CaraJan 14, 2026
No, it doesn't. My Kitty's microchip was too far down on his back so he it did end up having to wear the collar with the chip on it. That moves throughout the day all around his neck and no matter where it's at around his neck it's read no problem.

Will this feeder still work with another one of the same type right next to it? Also, could you make one that allows multiple pets to feed from it. We are trying to feed 1 diet food & 2 normal food & this feeder has disabled our other brand of feeder. Could we get 2 identical chips for the 2nd feede

Is this feeder for dry food only? Can you feed wet food?

Answer by ChewyNov 25, 2025

Perfect for monitoring (and limiting) each cat’s individual food consumption.

All three cats have taken to these quickly. Being able to monitor their feedings via the app has been helpful in making adjustments to times and amounts served throughout the day and night. Having individual feeders also makes it easier to tell if they aren’t feeling well based on how much they are or aren’t eating. I also like being able to put their afternoon and bedtime treats in their individual bins as well. The ability to give an extra feeding at the touch of a button if they have a day here and there where they’re more active and thus eating more is great. The reservoir and battery backup are also nice because we don’t have to worry about inclement weather preventing the pet sitter from making a visit, or taking our power out while we’re away. ****Using the feeder helped our cat that needed to lose weight finally do so and now she’s no longer limping and is jumping around and playing again! Thank you for this excellent feeder option that suited all of our needs.

I bought this after owning the PortionProRx which has an AMAZING RFID reading range but an AWFUL dispensing mechanism. I saw the granary dispenser on this one and thought "Great! The answer to my problem!" But the RFID reader on this unit is SO BAD that after a month I STILL cannot find a combo of settings that doesn't let my cats snipe each other's food. It either stays open and doesn't close when the other car gets near, or it closes IMMEDIATELY after opening because the cats neck isn't inside the ring (which is the reader). See, unlike the 3 FOOT distance on the PortionPro, this machine has (no joke) a 3 INCH reading distance. There's literally a dead zone in the MIDDLE of the reader ring that can't read the RFID tag, which meant my taller car kept going over and having the door not open because his head sat right in that dead zone. So once again I'm on the hunt for a feeder that will close when the wrong cat comes by and doesn't get jammed every other day. Regardless, I don't think I'll ever buy from this company again. There's a major flaw in every machine they make and I'm tired of coming home to my cats not having been fed for three days or eating food that they medically cannot have.

a simple ask makes it useless

I have 7 cats, all of them chipped, one of which needs to be on a diet (Biggie). I was thinking I could pair Biggie with the feeder and have the feeder close when he came near, but leave it open at all other times. Unfortunately, this is not possible for some reason. It seems like it would be simple to do... you can have it open when the paired RFID comes close, why not the reverse? I'm guessing that reason has to do with money because why have 1 feeder work when you could force customers to buy multiple? I like the amount of food the hopper can hold and the ease of pairing and how smoothly it operates...also seems like it would prevent food poaching, but I'm very disappointed that it can't do this one thing.

Total Life Saver

We couldn't love these machines more! I have one kitty on a urinary diet and one on a hydrolyzed diet. The ease of setup and using the app has been absolutely wonderful

We couldn't love these machines more! I have one kitty on a urinary diet and one on a hydrolyzed diet. The ease of setup and using the app has been absolutely wonderful. Unfortunately, one Kitty's microchip is too far back on his neck and so he does have to wear the collar with the chip. We are lucky that he adjusted to it no problem and a collar apparently doesn't bother him. His sister's chip was perfectly placed so she never had that issue. They're also much quieter than most automatic food dispensers I've ever used. And the kitties love them. My only downside is we liked to feed our kitties four times a day with very small portions, but the smallest portion they offer is 1/8 cup. So we had to cut back to two feedings a day along with their wet food.

Best of it’s kind

This is the only device that I’ve been able to find which both solves the problem of being both an automatic scheduled feeder and that has a door closing feature

This is the only device that I’ve been able to find which both solves the problem of being both an automatic scheduled feeder and that has a door closing feature to make it exclusive only to certain animals. I like that it also monitors and notifies you via the app with how much time your pet is actually spending at the feeder. The door itself, I think, because it opens from the top down and is fairly large, makes it more intimidating compared to the other microchip-only bowl that we have since it seems like our main cat that uses it still prefers the other one. It’s also fairly slow to shut even at the faster setting, but I’m sure this is for safety reasons. The only other con that I wish I could change is that it seems to only be able to sync with one microchip at a time per device, so if you have multiple anxious or slow eaters, this definitely won’t be the most budget-friendly option.

We have two cats and they eat totally different. One of them grazes and the other one would eat all the time if he could. Our vet recommended this feeder and I’m really glad we tried it. It feels really solid and was easy to set up. I honestly wasn’t sure how well it would work, but it actually works great. I keep it in closed mode and it only opens for the right cat, so it’s stopped the food stealing problem. The funny thing is I think my other cat is kind of jealous watching it open and close, so now I’m thinking about getting a second one so each cat can have their own feeder.

Great for multi cat households

One cat out of our 3 is always stealing food from the one who eats slowly. We tried other auto feeders, but they closed too slowly and didn’t have enough side protection

One cat out of our 3 is always stealing food from the one who eats slowly. We tried other auto feeders, but they closed too slowly and didn’t have enough side protection to keep the greedy one out. He would block it from closing and eat all of his sisters food. This feeder stopped all of that! The hatch closes quicker and from the bottom up, keeping him from pushing the slow eater out. The sides also keep him from sneaking up on the slow eater.

Microchip reader unreliable and interferes with other RFID products

I was so hopeful this was going to be the perfect solution for my cat who needs small, consistent portions and is on a prescription food my other cats cannot eat

I was so hopeful this was going to be the perfect solution for my cat who needs small, consistent portions and is on a prescription food my other cats cannot eat. Unfortunately, it does not work for my household. The microchip reader works inconsistently due to the design; my cat is on the taller side, and it is difficult for him to get low enough or far enough into the feeder to trigger the sensor, and it only recognizes him and opens about 25 percent of the time. It has an open mode that allows it to remain open but closes when non-paired pets with microchips try to use it, and while this worked initially, my other cat figured out he can still reach his arm in and snag food without triggering the sensor. The company was initially responsive, but after much back and forth, determined the feeder was working as it is supposed to and blamed my cat’s microchip - despite his chip working perfectly with microchip devices from other manufacturers. Also, note for those who also have Sure Petcare products in their household; it interferes with other RFID readers. We have two short SureFlap feeders that have worked flawlessly to date and stopped working when we plugged the PawsPik feeder in. They worked again when placed on opposite ends of the house, but it is very inconvenient to be unable to feed in the same room or space due to competing signals. I’ll likely try again if they come out with a second generation with a better design, as a microchip-based portion feeder is such a great solution for multi-cat households with specific dietary needs. However, this version missed the mark.

If your cat will wear a collar you won’t have an issue as the feeder reads the collar very quickly. My cat won’t. I had to go and get him a microchip and showed them the placement. It looked like they did what this company recommends. He is however, a big cat so the feeder won’t read his chip unless his head is IN the bowl. This means I can only use the setting that leaves the door open, allowing my other cat to get in a lot easier. It reads her microchip 25% of the time and will close the door on her. Really bummed about it as I’ve been waiting so long for a company to come out with a timed feeder that reads microchips. They just need a more sensitive reader or to add some to the sides or something.

Microchip RFID feature lets our grazer cat eat calmly & at her leisure!

Our new cat is a "see food, eat food" kind of guy. A 17 pound sweetheart, but given his voracious appetite we could no longer leave dry food out so our other cat could graze, and eat when she was hungry. I saw this feeder mentioned on a FB page I follow, Patches' Journey, and that prompted me to check it out. This feeder is exactly what we need! It's high quality, works well & meets/exceeds all of its marketed features. We are extremely happy with it, and how it lets our sweet girl Mora eat when she wants, without her new sibling gobbling everything up.
