There are so few options to toting your pup where he can see your face and sling bags just put all their weight on one shoulder which is a lot when your dog is small but not toy size small. This bag is ideal since it offers both back and front carry option. It is well made, especially for the price. My chihuahua is 13in tall when sitting, so right at the max for the large, and 11lbs. Once we got him to sit inside he was content and seemed comfortable. As you can see in the photo the cinched up opening hit him perfectly when he sat (and our bulldog is jealous she can’t fit in one too). I am only 5’3” but it seems comfortable when we tried it on me, though haven’t gone on a hike yet to know how I’ll do for an extended time. This won’t necessarily get tons of use but I’m glad to have it for the times we’ll want it!

The dog is able to sit comfortably in front of me while I ride my motorcycle. I have a 10lbs chi. I recommend putting on a nice comfortable chest harness and attach it to the interior clip. This prevents the dog from resting on his throat on the lining of the back pack head hole. This is the only bag that I have found to have a nice solid base plate which allows the dog to rest on their bottom. Without the bottom the dog is forced to lean forward and lay on its legs in an awkward way. This bag is perfect! I wish it came in full black though. The black and grey works for now. But full black would make it look less obnoxious imo.

My Maltese is a velcro dog. In this carrier he's close to me, has better view, and can curl up to sleep in the bottom. He didn't feel secure in our previous carrier because his legs hung out.
