Does this need to be refrigerated?
Answer by ChewyJun 06, 2020
It is recommended to refrigerate after opening.

The serving size vs. pump size info. is confusing on the PetHonesty Wild Caught Omega-3 Fish Oil Dog & Cat Supplement. Serving is 5 ml (1 tsp), but one pump is only 2 ml. How many PUMPS would contain 3500 mg of Omega-3 Oil?
Answer by ChewyAug 24, 2020
Please see recommended feeding chart attached.

Does the product have to be used within a certain time frame? I understand fish oils start to go bad after 30-60 days.
Answer by ChewyAug 19, 2021
All jars have an expiration date 18 months after production and they can last even longer if stored in a cool, dry place unopened. If it's an opened bottle, it has a shelf life of 60-90 days. It should be stored in a cool dry place as constant exposure to heat or drastic temperature changes will make it spoil faster. It can certainly be stored in the refrigerator for max freshness but a cool dry place will suffice.

How long does one bottle last? I have a 70-lb Golden Retriever.
Answer by ChewyAug 12, 2020
As one pump is equal to 2 millilitre, the 32 ounce (946 millilitre) bottle will have approximately 473 pumps.

Duped - they reduced the Omega amounts

I have been buying PetHonesty products for awhile now and gave always been happy with them, so I have them on autoship now. BUT I feel completely duped and am not happy at all with the recent package change. The package is the least of my concern, the formula has been completely watered down. I initially bought this due to the high concentration of EPAs and DHAs. The old bottle is based on 4.6g in 2 pumps, the total Omega 3 is 1438mg, of which EPA is 800mg and DHA is 525g. The new bottle is based on 1.8g in 1 pump. In order to do straight comparison, you have to multiply the new bottle amount of omega 3 levels by 2.55 (4.6g divided by 1.8g equals 2.55). So the new bottle provides only s total of for total of 1160mg Omega 3s, the EPA is 599mg and DHA is 395mg. A substantial drop in amounts. I signed up for the original bottle over other brands solely due to the higher amounts of good omega 3s. So i feel completely duped. Unless PetHonesty reverts back to the original amounts, I will cancel autoship and buy a different brand.

The bottle is horrible, and my cat doesn’t like it

As lots of these comments mentioned, the pump is not working at all. I recommend just save your effort of trying to figure out the pump and use the other head instead. Also, my cat doesn’t like it at all. She licked everything the first time I gave it to her, but after that she wouldn’t eat it anymore. I tried to mixed it with her favorite wet food, her favorite freeze dried chicken, and even Churu, but she won’t touch it anymore. I don’t know what changed or she just doesn’t like it to begin with. It has a strong fishy smell too, it was all over my hand when I was trying to figure out the pump, and I can’t washed the smell away until several time. I’ll look for other brands for fish oil.

This was a hard nope!

So I am trying to increase the fat in my elderly cats diet. Ive been trying all the fish oil and not one will any of my cats eat. When I first opened this she licked it from my finger but now, no way. I don't know if its spoiling too fast or what. I keep it in the fridge. But my 2 boys who will eat anything won't touch their food if this is in it. I am going to try the soft gels next. Or maybe i should try the human version.

Omega-3 Fish Oil is a Great Product!

We have 7 canines in our family, all rescues of various breeds/ages. Two dogs in particular (our only short-hairs) seemed to be constantly scratching, but don't think it was a flea problem. Despite a good diet of "5-Star" kibble with homemade chicken/rice/veggie topping, one dog developed a few crusty areas where the skin was being constantly irritated. Pet Honesty Fish Oil cleared that up in less than a week, another long-haired dog's coat is so silky to the touch and easier to brush, and the recommended dosage put weight on a dog that always looked too lean and improved the feel of his coat as well. Will keep feeding this to all our dogs and suggested it to a friend with 3 Huskies. Also does NOT have an unpleasant fishy odor!

Great! Except for the pump.

My cats and I love this product. They literally lick their bowls clean. Their coats are shiny and soft. The product doesn’t stink. One 16 Oz bottle for 2 cats lasts a while. I’m just now buying a refill after about 3 months and the product is still good. My one issue: the pump gets nasty FAST. It gets clogged really easily and the pump itself gets really sticky. If you clean it off after each use I don’t think it would be an issue but it still sucks.

Diarrhea Inducer

I love giving my dog fish oil. My first golden needed it for his dry skin. However, my new pup gets severe diarrhea every time i used this. And I'm talking splatter on the wall diarrhea. I tried a different fish oil and that doesn't happen. So just be warned. And yes I did wean him up to his regular dosing.

Pump failed

The pump failed to work.. in the process of trying to unlock it, the bottle went flying, cracked, and the oil went everywhere. Product may be good- but we wont know and wont buy again to find put.

NOT just a packaging change

With the new packaging also comes a formula change and much less nutrients per volume. EPA dropped from 18% to 14%, DHA dropped from 12% to 9% by volume, which means the oil is now watered down to have less nutrients. Pretty sneaky to try to call this a 'packaging update'. This is especially disappointing because this was the one oil I could get my dogs to eat. All the others need too much oil to get the nutrients.

Great Product!

Ordered this product after my Shih-Tzu, Ling Ling, was suffering from constant scratching and major redness in her underbelly area. After doing some research relating to this issue, this was the type of product recommended to remedy her situation which was easily added to her food. Thankfully she liked the taste too! So would highly recommend. :-)
