Got this to replace Victor because of the recall. Started transitioning with just a small amount mixed in with the old and my boy wouldn't go near it and just looked at me with a confused look on his face and I have to mix broth and scrambled eggs to make him eat it. He will go sniff the new bag and just back away like something's wrong. I feel awful. I'm a disabled veteran on a fixed income and can't afford to keep buying new food for my service dog. I don't know if it's the flavor, should I try a different recipe? I want Victor back.
My dog was having some digestive upset with a Canidae dry food so we switched him to this and he likes it (which is great because he wouldn't even touch the other kibble) and no more digestive issues! I decided to try the salmon flavor first but I also purchased the lamb flavor. I think we are going to stick with this dry food for now as it is a good price point and comes in a few flavors/proteins to switch it up here and there to prevent boredom.
I shop a lot for my dog food and I make comparisons on everything. My large breed dog is a Bernese Mountain Dog and he deserves, and needs the very best quality food that I can possibly provide. I’ve made comparisons between this food and more expensive items, and this food still comes out on top nutritionally. I’m always shopping when I see something new and American journey still ends up winning over other foods. Lots of different flavors lots of different formulas for your specific dog. He gobbles it down and finishes up before anybody else. (I have 4 dogs, different sizes) As it turns out, I’m gonna end up having to get him one of those bowls that makes him slow down. My Bucky really enjoys this food.
While trying to transition my dog to this food, I noticed very loose stools. I thought it might be a fluke so continued on with the transition period of 10 days. His stools only got worse over time. To the point that he would wake me in the middle of the night. I had to purchase his old food - Solid Gold Wolf King. This is a 4 yo Black Lab that has never had an issue switching foods. He’s known as my little garbage can.
My dogs have food allergies and have done well on this food for 2+ years. After the "new look" recently, my dog is in incredible distress due to allergies. He is continuing to worsen after stopping all treats and other foods. Now I have to find another food... Do NOT buy this food. Look at the recent reviews.
Our pup is allergic to chicken so went with a salmon food. I should have read the ingredients more thoroughly. Deboned salmon is #1 but chicken fat is high up there. Do not use in place of chicken food.
My Lab loves this. I was giving him another formula from American Journey but he truly prefers this one. We will stick with the Salmon.
We have been using this product for a year but the last few bags they wouldn’t eat and started throwing up. They changed the bag, but not sure if the product was changed also??
This food has been great so far with my danes. They love the salmon over the chicken which is probably best for them in the long run. Great overall value for the price and has a great nutrition values. Thanks chewy for making a quality product.
