The description of this dog food says "There’s no wheat, corn, soy, chicken or poultry by-product meals" but in the ingredient list it clearly states "chicken meal" as the 6th ingredient. Which is correct?

This recipe does not contain any Poultry by-products which are composed of nutrient-dense organ meats. They are rich in protein and amino acids to help strengthen and maintain your pet’s muscles. Also, because of their nutrient-rich composition, they are typically the first thing an animal would eat in the wild. Poultry by-products do not include animal parts such as feathers, teeth or beaks. This recipe does include Chicken meal which is made up of chicken that has been ground and cooked, reducing the fat content to create a protein-rich ingredient. It’s high in protein and amino acids to help strengthen and maintain your pet’s muscles. It’s also a high-quality source of glucosamine for joint health. Chicken meal does not include feathers, heads, feet or entrails.

Because individual dog breeds age at a different pace than others, the age a dog is considered a senior will vary with the size and breed. In general, large dog breeds age more quickly than small dog breeds. Small breeds are considered senior dogs around 10-12 years old. Medium size breeds are considered senior dogs around 8-9 years old. Large and giant breeds are considered senior dogs around 6-7 years old. Always consult with your veterinarian for the best results with your individual pet.

No longer happy

Not sure if the amount of each ingredient, order of ingredients or type of ingredients has changed but we stopped using the Senior American Journey Dry Dog Food for awhile because of issues but decided to try this food again and slowly made the transition over a three week period but once again her stools are not solid, she has tremendous gas and seems uninterested in the food. We tried but will stop using all together and donate an unopened bag we still have. We have a soon to be 10 year old Boxer, American Staffordshire Terrier mix.

Great for use as a mixer

I use this as a base kibble with toppings like veggies, salmon oil, etc. and my dog loves it. I did get a batch that had quite a few burnt kibbles, maybe about 30% of the bag. Out of the many bags I have purchased this was the only one so it was most likely QC/1 off batch. The nutrition is good for the price point. Also, the kibble is small enough to use as a training treat for puppies.

Great for my 13 year old pit bull

My senior pit bull would not keep on weight until we switched to this food. At 13 he is still very active. He also has extreme food allergies so only fish based food works for him. This food is high protein so unless you have an active dog this will lead to weight gain but that was our goal and this works great for us.

Dogs don't like it

So my usual Auto Ship order of "American Journey Senior Chicken & Sweet Potato Recipe Grain-Free Dry Dog Food" was not available and Chewy didn't notify me until the day the Auto Ship order shipped, but sorry NO Dog FOOD! I scrambled to find something quick and available that could ship out right away, so this is what I chose, not sure if it's the "Salmon"? but the dogs just won't eat it.

not recommended by my vet

i did so much research and talked to many other pet owners and vets only to find that many advise that i should feed my dog something approved and regulated. my dog does like this food, and has good skin and coat, but i wish i knew more about why they arent approved.

Not a good experience

I bought this because the Purina Pro Plan Senior was out of stock. My rescue dog usually has a steel stomach and can eat just about anything with no consequences. Even with a gradually transition to this new kibble he had explosive and runny stools. Major drop in energy and could tell he was not a happy camper. Gave it a month to adjust to change in kibble with no improvement at all. When his usual ProPlan kibble was available again I switched him back. Immediate improvement in poops and energy

Picky pound puppy

Lakie, our princess pound puppy is very picky of what she eats. It’s hard to find dry food that suits her taste. She likes this pretty good! I only wish I hadn’t ordered quite the largest bag! You know, next week, she may need a change to something different!

Weight Gain 9000

The food is liked by my large dog however this food is like Weight Gain 9000. My dog beefed up in about 2 weeks after eating now it's summer and this is not good for him.
