Our boy is finally eating again!
We have two dogs (a 13 year old puggle and a 13 year old Shiloh Shepherd). One has EPI (exocrine pancreatic insufficiency) and doesn’t tolerate certain foods. So far, he seems to be tolerating this American Journey Protein & Grains Salmon very well. It’s been years since we’ve been able to successfully change his food, so this is very exciting for us (and him!) He started to dislike his old food and finally seems interested in eating again. Our puggle doesn’t have a history of being picky about food, but I feel like she’s a little more excited for meal times these days. It might be coincidence or time of year, but she hasn’t been too interested in eating nature’s treats outdoors (poop) since starting on this food, so that’s a huge plus! :) We especially like that there is REAL salmon as the first ingredient and there’s NO wheat, corn or soy. Overall, the dogs and I are pretty happy with this food!
Better than Expected
I like to feed my dogs a fish based diet for the Omega 3 fatty acid benefits. I decided to try American Journey Salmon and Brown Rice as the price point was good and the ingredient list was above average. When I was opening up the Chewy box to get everything out from my order my one dog that likes to supervise me to make sure I"m doing things correctly was going crazy. She kept aggressively sniffing at the bag and pawing at it. She has never done that before. I decided to open it up and offer a few pieces of kibble to each dog (I have four) and they all went nuts. Even my WH Dachshund who can be very picky thought it was amazing. I've been feeding it for a few days now and there is no digestive issues with any of the dogs. I will definitely buy this brand again. It's honestly better than I thought it would be.
Great for medium/large breed
I have 6 dogs ranging in size and age. I fed the salmon, brown rice and vegetable recipe (all life stages)to all of them for over a week now. The kibble is perfectly sized for dogs of all breeds. My small breed dogs don't like it. If i mix it with their regular food, they eat around it. However, my large breed dogs love it! It seems to help them feel fuller for longer. They haven't experienced and digestive or skin issues since the switch to this food. Both of my large breed dogs are very high energy, this food has the protein needed to keep up with them. The omega and fatty acids are #1 on my list of must haves in a dog food. American Journey delivers it.
Great food for allergies with great flavor
As soon as the box came in my girl was sniffing all around excited. I gave her a small handful as a treat to see how she liked it and she was very happy and wanted more. She has had the American Journey treats before, but this was the first time trying the food. My 12yr old fur baby has many allergies and when we introduced this new food she has done great so far with her skin issues and no yeast in her ears. She loves the taste too and happily eats. My mother has also been visiting with her small fur baby and he has been eating it as well. Both are happy eating this food. No digestive issues. No skin issues. No ear issues. Makes us happy too 😊
Decent food for a medium to large breed.
I liked that one of my dogs seemed to really like how it smelled. She was very curious about the box before I opened it. We were at home, she was very comfortable. My other dog did not seem overly interested. She's very picky though and I thought the salmon would be appetizing for her. I do believe the size of the kibble is not an appropriate size for my chihuahuas but overall I think it's a good product. Maybe they will make a small dog size kibble.
Loved it
My dachshund initially snubbed this food, but the next day he eats this first over his regular brand. The kernels are a better size for his small mouth than his regular food. My shorthair gobbled this down right from the get-go
dog has skin problems now
My dog was on this food for years with no problems. He started to have skin issues, hot spots and other things but I thought maybe it was old age or stress from moving. I dug more into this issues and was told it was probably allergies from food. Looked into his food and saw they changed the formula and it’s happening to a lot of other dogs. This is super disappointing because chewy makes this food now. I would stay clear away. Can’t believe they are allowing this to happen to so many people’s precious babies.
Great for low purines
I have three Dalmatians and it’s hard to find food low in purines. Two of mine loved the food and didn’t give them the gas that most foods do. The other has a more sensitive stomach and we don’t typically charge his diet. I definitely would recommend
