Can this be used on other fence systems I have a sportdog

This wire break detector helps accurately locate full wire breaks in any in-ground fence system.
Me again - are these easy to install and how deep does the wire need to be?

The Wire Break Locator is extremely to install. You will only need to use the wire break locator when there is a wire break indication on the current fence transmitter. The wire does not need to be buried when using this. The wire is to go through the small holes in the grounding stakes and twisted.
An this be used to find in tact wire for flag placement? Rather than finding a wire break?

The wire break transmitter sends two unique tones down each side of your dog fence boundary wire. The green light indicates a continuous tone and the red light indicates an intermittent tone. With the hand-held locator, you not only hear each tone sent by the wire break transmitter, but the red and green lights on the locator allow you to see which tone is being received. Wire Break Locator is not designed to detect partial breaks.

More than necessary

This tester works pretty well and I found the break in my border wire caused by a digging possum. It would get 5 stars except it is pretty pricy and includes wire and connectors which, though convenient, are not necessary. You should have connectors and original wire from when you put in the system originally. BTW, I used it to find a break in the border wire for my Landroid lawn mower, not a dog fence...

Relatively easy to set up and use.

I only gave this 4 stars because my locator came with 2 capsules and 2 wire nuts, not 4 of each as described. I thought my system indicated a wire break, but it turned out the transmitter wires to my unit were loose. Unfortunately, this was not discovered until I had set up the unit, gone all the way around my 500 feet of wire with no break detected. Because I had used it, I did not feel it right in trying to return it. My advice, is check your units wiring before purchasing this unit.

Broken wire

Dug up fence couldn't find break. Found break in under ground dog fence fast worked great I would recommend.

For Your Information

I never used this product. In fact, I am returning it. What is not explained on the site is that this product is for HARD WIRED fence, not the battery-powered kind.

Worked, but was used product

The device worked as expected, but was disappointed to see Chewy ship me a used product. Stakes had caked on dirt, most of the wire was missing, as well as some of the other parts. Clearly someone got their use out of this and then returned it, and Chewy did not bother to inspect it upon return. Disappointing.0

Worked exactly as promised.

Over the past 28 years, we have rerun the ground wire 2-3 times because of the inability to find breaks in the line. Before we reran the wire AGAIN, my husband had the foresight to see if there was any type of detection system. Our system is a PetSafe fence, and we waffled if we should spend this much money. Since it would take a whole weekend to rerun the fence around the property and since the reviews were favorable, we decided to give this system a try. We hoped for the best, but prepared for the worst. We were amazed, and delighted, when we found the 1st break. It was exactly where the locator indicated. I mean EXACTLY! We made a temporary fix, continued using the locator and found a 2nd break. Again, it was EXACTLY where the locator indicated, and EXACTLY where we dug. Did another temporary fix, and determined that the fence was back up and running. We made the fix permanent and reburied the lines. Instead of spending a weekend rerunning the fence wire, we spend about 1 -2 hours using the Break Locators. It was WORTH EVERY PENNY! We realized that we could also use the detector to help us mark the fence location if we every need to dig near our property line.

Broken Wire

The wire break locator is easy to use and does a very good job of tracing the underground wire. Much better than previous equipment. I would recommend this for those that chose to repair their underground electric fence themselves.

Found break fast!

I have a complicated wire run around the house through landscaping, under driveway and along fence line. I dreaded trying to find the break. I was relieved to see Petsafe makes a detector. Took me less than 15 minutes to find the break after setup. Worth every penny! My Petsafe fence is now serving its second dog.

Excellent Product!

After reading multiple and mixed reviews about how well this product worked in finding a break in the fence, I went into this purchase with guarded expectations. The produce worked exactly as it is described. I followed the simple directions (and even watched the short online video). After about 5 minutes of prep and getting the ground wires set, I was walking the fence line. The signal was very clear and the LED indicators made it even easier to track. Within 2 minutes I had located the break. It was right along the driveway where someone had run a bit into the grass. A very quick dig, splice, and bury later and PROBLEM SOLVED! Total time including opening the box and unpacking was less than an hour. I have a fence that runs the full perimeter of 1.25 acres. So it is a pretty large run. I would have hated to have to reinstall the entire fence. This thing is WELL WELL worth the cost.
