This laser works best on hard surfaces, but if it is a short carpet (like an area rug) the wheels will still move around on it without issue.

This mobile laser toy moves around the floor while its laser “tail” follows behind and creates patterns that are visually interesting to your pet. It's motion will continue for 10 minutes until the toy automatically shuts off.

Can this be held in one's hand and used like a regular laser pointer and directed by the person, or does it have a mind of its own?

Work on carpets!!

I have used other electronic moving laser lights. This is the only one I've found that actually moves on my carpets. It's great, it does avoid objects and rotates

I have used other electronic moving laser lights. This is the only one I've found that actually moves on my carpets. It's great, it does avoid objects and rotates. I've had it end up under my couches it moves so much and well. My only down side is that it doesn't have a motion sensing feature. My cats would leave ve it to turn on when the slap it.

Too loud and gets stuck constantly

Remember when the roomba first generation came out and got stuck transitioning from hardwood/tile floor to carpet, would role down stairs and would just stop working??

Awesome laser toy.

Laser beam is focused downward so that it does not hit your pet in the eye. It does run for about 10 minutes and then shuts down on its own saving me the hassle

Laser beam is focused downward so that it does not hit your pet in the eye. It does run for about 10 minutes and then shuts down on its own saving me the hassle of manually doing it. Cats live it. It will end up under furniture on occasion but a minor hassle which can be avoided if place in an open area or you have furniture guards to prevent things from going underneaths
