Can this be used on cats?

Answer by ChewyNov 10, 2017
This pet barrier is for indoor use with dogs and cats 5 pounds and up.

The barrier has the option to set from A and B but is there any way to set a collar to A and B? If not why is that an option on the barrier?

Answer by ChewyMay 22, 2018
The barrier units have two channels which they can be set to, or a combination of both of these. Each barrier unit has an A, B, and AB setting which each collar can then be paired to, so that you can set up multiple barriers in anyway you choose. For example, one barrier can be set to A and set in one location, and the other set to B and set in a different location; if you have multiple pets, one of their collars could then be paired up with the A (or AB) signal and the other can be paired to the B signal.

I am looking for an item that will prevent my 45lb dog from bolting out the door. Will this item help? Can it attach to the wall with screws or sticky tabs?

Answer by ChewyFeb 13, 2018
The Pet Barrier is normally left in the area on the floor or counter top but should be able to attach to the wall with sticky tabs.

How far away does this device need to be from a dryer? My back sliding door has one of those installed dog doors inches away from the dryer and I don’t want my cat to go out the dog door.

Answer by ChewyJul 29, 2018
This barrier transmitter should not be near large metal objects such as washers or refrigerators. Metal objects can alter the magnetic field and change the transmitting signal range. The effect on the range depends on the size and shape of the objects. Signal range can be reduced if the Barrier Transmitter is placed on a concrete floor, due to steel reinforcement in the concrete. For best range results, place the Barrier Transmitter on a nonconductive surface, i.e., wood floor or table. Placing the Barrier Transmitter beneath sofas and beds can reduce the range due to the metal springs altering the magnetic field.

I bought my first one, the mini barrier, a year ago for my 12 pound Ragdoll who discovered the doggie door. It worked for a few weeks to keep him away from the door, then suddenly, he was going out again. I checked the collar and battery, and the collar was dead. I replaced the battery in the collar, and still dead. The company ended up replacing that collar, as it was defective. The new one came, and it worked for a month or so, then the cat stopped paying attention to it, even though it was still working. I foolishly bought this one, the bigger one, thinking it would get his attention better. He is SO smart - he waits for his opportunity, when the electronic door is up for longer than usual (usually because a dog is standing in front of it trying to decide to go out or not) then he makes a beeline, from the side, to get out. If he has to go near it and stand, it shocks him, but apparently when he is flying out, it happens so quickly that any shock is negligible, and he has learned that. I am so frustrated, trying to protect this ragdoll from the big bad outside world! His sister has never tried, nor have any of my older cats, now passed.....just this stubborn boy!

I bought this about ten years ago for my stubborn Frenchie. It stopped him within two days from going into the rooms I wanted to keep him out of. I recently bought a new one for my new Frenchie. She’s stubborn too! It took her two warnings and now she avoids the living room. Well worth it!

I wish I never purchased this item. I bought it once and it worked for a couple months. After that, it stopped working. I checked the manual and tried all the recommendations with no luck. Returned it for another product that stopped working after a couple months. I would advise anyone to avoid buying this product.

Works like a charm!

The cost can be trimmed to fit. Fits our adult cat perfectly. After one day she doesn't sneak out the doggy door anymore.

This is one of multiple that we have bought because they had initially worked well and then they seem to stop working so we rebought it but our dog seems no longer bothered by the shock anymore and she will walk right by it. Wish you could slightly increase the shock strength instead of the distance strength.

I bought this as it said could be used for a cat in Chewy feedback. The collar does not work for a cat. I shaved the fur away and it still does not work as the collar does not stay in place. I think it is just too big for a cat. The shock and boundary settings do work. I can hear it beep but that does nothing to deter the cat. It shocked me. Fur is a dealbreaker. Waste of money.

My cat is way too into food so I have to keep him out of the kitchen or else he finds a way to destroy everything. Thus product works wonders until it breaks. This little metal tab (in the photo) just fell out when I thought the batteries needed replacing. Perhaps they did, but now we'll never know. In the other photo I show that the plastic tab that helps keep the batteries attached to the collar is cracking. That's what happened to the last one and it was useless after that. I'm also pretty sure the metal tab ended up breaking in that one too because I noticed a rattle. Ugh.
