What is static correction for dogs?

Static is a training technology that uses brief, harmless pulses of static electricity delivered by a collar (sometimes called an "e-collar") to get a dog’s attention. Static stimulations are safe, but very difficult to ignore – and this is why static training is so effective. I was apprehensive at first to try this. My dog is generally very good, but sometimes gets distracted by noises, deer, phantom chipmunks and not as responsive to the task at hand. I wanted something to layer onto my verbal command to redirect his loss of focus. I used this trainer on the mildest level, and it was very effective. I reinforced his "return to reality" with praise and treats. After using this trainer, his redirect has gotten much better. It was extremely easy to charge - love the magnetic connection instead of plugs - held a charge and was easy to fit to my dog. This trainer is absolutely not the solution to taking the time to train your dog or used as a form of punishment.

This is a remote used for dog training. I will say, I have experience with other E-Collar brands that are higher end. This remote collar has multiple settings. One vibrate mode and the rest deliver a shock sensation, similar to a TENS unit. The vibrate only is very weak and is unlikely to solicit a response. It can barely be felt. The electric stimulation, even on one seemed fairly strong to me. The range is 1-19. (Other brands have many more levels allowing for lower shock sensations). I could not figure out how to turn off the remote, it seemed to go to sleep after inactivity but was not off as touching a button woke it up. Overall, I wasn’t overly impressed and would rather spend more money to get a little better collar/remote with more features.

Well-made little collar!

I haven’t been able to use this collar to its full capacity yet, as I have had far too many deaths in my family since I received it to really delve into training my unruly dogs, but my impressions thus far are favorable. It appears to be well-made and it’s easy to use and understand. I have 8 dogs and haven’t yet decided which dog I’ll trailer this to permanently, but it currently fits most of them. I do have some smaller dogs (Chihuahua, Chihuahua mix, and Min Pin) that I probably won’t use this on. I do, however, have a smaller ecollar for them. I will probably fit this collar to my pit mix. He’s sweet but easily gets distracted and fails to listen to commands when outside. I have tried other collars in the past that were bulky (this one isn’t), didn’t work as well or have a range that extends as far, would no longer hold a charge, etc., so I look forward to being able to use this new collar full time. I absolutely love that there are so many settings so that it can be trailered to each individual dog and their needs and I love that the range is so long. I have used three or four different ecollars over the years and none of them had a range as substantial as this collar. We live out in the country and my dogs are often running off into the woods. With this I should have no issues training them to come back before they go too far. As of yet, I haven’t had any issues with the collar popping off, but I also haven’t been able to use it as much as I’d like yet. I don’t anticipate this being an issue but we shall see!

My Dog is Too High Strung and Sensitive for This

I want to say that I appreciate that this collar has a slight beep only, vibration only or the option of 19 levels of stimulation. The beep and vibration options are not variable; there is just one level. I have a 45 lb. 5 yo cattle dog/bulldog rescue named Penny. She is a nuisance barker, especially when she is excited and running out front to the car to go for a trail walk or to run errands. I wanted to try this collar to see if she would become more manageable with a little feedback besides our voices. I found the enclosed instructions and QR code for additional assistance to be very helpful and detailed. I underlined a few things in parts so I would take special note. I followed all the instructions and had the collar sized to her appropriately but I had not yet trimmed the excess length. While she sat calmly, I pressed the stimulation button that was calibrated to zero, which meant that it would only vibrate a bit on her neck but not send any stimulation. I guess she is too high strung and spastic because she jumped up and looked around in kind of a panic. I felt uncomfortable with this. I tried the sound only, which makes a slight beep but again she flipped out a little. At this point, she was understanding that the collar was the disturbance and began to belly up and become submissive so I would consider removing it. I don’t think this type of product was a good choice for Penny and yet PetSafe is well designed to accommodate many different circumstances.

It’s nice material for the collar portion and I like to that it’s long and I can adjust it to my dog. I cut the excess off and now it’s perfect. It’s also very easy to switch between the different settings and the range is pretty long!

Working on the command alone is a great tool to help resolve unwanted behavior.

With this collar you will find it both alerts by beeping and vibrates on 0 setting. Setting 1-19 is shock and beeping. My dogs have been trained on an e collar, so the vibration and beeping works excellent for them. My younger dog is 100 pounds and is a little more stubborn, so I used shock at 3. I tried it on my arm to see how painful it was at level 3, it was not painful (but noticeable). I would definitely recommend this collar to anyone interested in an e collar. I own other more expensive collars and this one works as well!

It is hard to give an opinion on the product because on my first trial with my lab Pippa the collar came off and was lost. We were in a grassy field and there was no chance of finding it. I have used training collars for 20 years and I have never had a collar come off! When I put the collar on, according to the instructions, it did seem very flimsy. For me the Petsafe Pro Remote Dog trainer is a complete failure!
