Compounding is a way for licensed pharmacists to create a customized medication that meets your pets specific needs. Compounding pharmacists mix or change one or more FDA-approved medications to prepare a special medication for your pet. For example, if a medication is only available in pill form, the pharmacist might create it in liquid, gel, or capsule form.
Your pet may have a specific health need that cannot be addressed by an FDA-approved drug. For example:

The Veterinary Clinic prescribed this medicine for my cat, Fritz. It would be a lifetime medication as he is almost 14 years of age and his platelet count is way below standard. I am retired so I am on a fixed income. The med from the vet and drug store were a bit much on my available funds. I ask my vet if I could order the med from Chewy. The vet agreed that would be the best option. The meds from Chewy are the same as prescribed but at 30 percent less than the cost from the vet office or a pharmacy. Thanks Chewy for making it possible to keep my Fritzie kitty well and happy.
I gave it a 3 star rating because I am sure the product itself is fine...it did not work out for me because unfortunately my little snot turns his nose up at every flavor you have...we can't chase him down to give it to him normally so we try to mix it with a small amount of similar flavored food...he has now rejected the last flavor you make so we are out of luck at this point...expensive mistakes :(
I received Prednisolone chicken flavor originally from my vet, however they do not refill so I turned to Chewy since they are well known and had the lowest pricing for this medication. My cat liked the original medication and did not mind having to receive oral injections. However, with Chewy's version things were off from the start. The bottle arrived blue not brown, the medicine was clear not brown, it smelled like fried chicken and not in a good way so my cat immediately turned away when I brought them their medication. Then after the struggle of giving them the medication, my poor kitty started foaming at the mouth and spitting! They hated it! They need this medication so I did attempt to give it to them for a couple more days but ultimately stopped. I could not keep traumatizing them with this awful stuff. Now I've got a full bottle sitting in my fridge and wasted money while I try another online pet pharmacy.
In the past I received prednisolone from my vet. The tuna flavor was great; my cat took it easily. Recently my vet told me that I couldn’t get the compound from them. As I’ve always loved Chewy, I was happy to learn that they could provide it. My cat not only fights taking Chewy’s version of the prednisolone but gags and heaves. There is no unflavored option. I recommend looking elsewhere for this prescription.
There was a big change in my pet's health when I got the prednisolone in her mouth and got her to swallow it. She was good initially but soon would not take the syringe or keep the medicine down. We moved to the pills, and again, it made a big difference in her health, until she didn't want to do the pills, either. It worked well when she would take the medicine, though!
My cat really hates the way this chicken flavored medicine tastes. Every time I give it to her she starts salivating excessively, gagging and even sometimes foaming at the mouth. She absolutely hates it. Maybe Chewy should consider reformulating this so it’s more palatable for our pets.
My cat with IBD has taken this for a while. We always get the chicken flavor. She doesn’t love it but she takes it. One time our vet called it into the pharmacy they use and we tried it and the cat absolutely hated their flavor. We only use chewy now.
Why is there no unflavored version? I add this to my cat's food, she smells it, and then won't eat her food. If it was unflavored, she wouldn't be smelling anything. So there is beef, chicken and tuna. And for some reason, marshmellow. Do you know how they came up with marshmellow? I asked my cat if she likes marshmellow and she didn't have much to say about it.
My cats previous online pharmacy had closed which left us in the lurch. We had ordered from Chewy plenty and figured the price was amazing so we gave the chicken flavor a try. He hated it. Absolutely hated it. He spent hours licking his mouth afterwards. The following day when I tried again he clenched his jaw tight and just allowed it to spill down his face. He didn't do this with the previous cherry medicine. So, not sure where to go from here.
Even though I squirted the liquid directly into the back of my cat's mouth, he still couldn't handle the taste. He was gagging and salivating all over himself. I even tried mixing it with liquefied treats, which just caused him to spit it up. Clearly, the "tuna" flavor is quite awful. $50+ down the drain.
